Senators in Class II were elected to office in the November 2002 general election. Their terms run from the beginning of the 108th Congress on January 3, 2003 to the end of the 110th Congress in January 2009.

3. Every 2 years there are 33 Senate seats at a minimum up for grabs.
Senators are divided into Classes. Class I, Class II and Class III.

Class I - 33 Senators - (term expires 2013)

Class II - 33 Senators - (term expires 2009)

Class III - 34 Senators - (term expires 2011)

Additional seats may be contested if a Senator dies or resigns. An appointed Senator fills the remaining term of office only if the next scheduled election has less than 2 years remaining. Otherwise, an election is held at the next regular federal election which are held every 2 years.
