Coughlin played the same role Limbaugh plays today, except the enemy to Coughlin then was Jews and communists.

And I think he knows that. Or at least he's beginning to figure it out. I think it's hard for any politician to get past the demonization of the New Deal that has become the norm in Washington since the Reagan Revolution.
