“Barring a terrorist attack,” said Maslin, “in the face of what’s happened
to the United States economy, the world economy, in the last two weeks, how does this trend (Obama's surge in the polls) reverse itself?”

http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20081009/pl_politico/14413

Paul Maslin is a Democratic strategist. Tell me something, why does even HE buy into the RW talking point that a terrorist attack would be good for McCain?

Wouldn't a terrorist attack prove that the Bush Administration was unable to keep us safe, not just once but TWICE?

How exactly would this help McCain? He has shown absolutely NOTHING to ANYONE regarding his ability to deal with terrorists. For all of his and Palin's rhetoric, they're both paper tigers (at least with regard to stopping terrorism).

The way you deal with terrorism is to prosecute it like a crime and get cooperation from world leaders in rooting it out. The Bush administration has instead declared war on the entire planet and bombed innocent populations into the stone age.

I would be much more comfortable with Obama in charge, and I just can't see how your average undecided voter could see another terrorist attack as ANYTHING but a complete failure of Bush's foreign policy - and I've seen NOTHING from McCain that suggests he plans to change that policy.

2. Be careful what you say...
They are desperate. We all know they will go to no ends to preserve the executive branch as a dismal failure.

3. Because people often buy into common narratives without thinking them through.
And inside the RW lobbyist-owned Beltway, these kinds of narratives are very common.

4. Three, I think you mean
"Wouldn't a terrorist attack prove that the Bush Administration was unable to keep us safe, not just once but TWICE?"

Don't forget the still-unsolved anthrax attacks.
