Kevin Farley - interesting call to local talk radio today about American Carol
Ok, I was driving for work today and I couldn't get any other talk station, so I thought I would entertain myself by listening to a local right wing talking moran. For those of you in the Boston Area, it was Howie Carr's show.

Well, he started to talk about American Carol and don't you know, Kevin Farley called into the show. He stayed on the phone with Carr while they took calls from the locals, letting them talk directly to Farley.

Farley was whining about how the movie wasn't making what it should and that more people needed to get out and see it if they wanted more work like this to be made in Hollywood.

Here's where the real fun began. The first caller told him that he went to see the movie in Brattleboro, VT over the weekend and how much he enjoyed it. He told him the start time was a bit later than he thought but he hung around and waited for it to begin all the same. He couldn't believe that when he went in the theater that he was ALONE, not one other person showed up for that showing of the movie.

Second caller, almost the exact same story, just a different town and theater and this time it was a woman calling.

Third caller told him he hadn't been to the theater since ET, but that he went to see it and the place was "packed", which I took to mean more than just him and his wife were there for a change. He did say that he would buy the DVD and couldn't wait for it to come out, but why not wait to release it for the fourth of July?

Needless to say, all the calls after that were echos of the first three.

They know they tanked and will tank with this one and they are begging their 'base' to go see it. Just had to share!

2. It's the movie they made to make fun of Michael Moore
on the lines of a Christmas Carol, only with Michael Moore instead of Scrooge.

3. Scrooge was the ultimate capitalist...

And although the Dickens novel promoted goodness and charity as its final message, most repubs probably on some level see their own values in those of the Scrooge character. It's a strange juxtaposition to create a new story with Michael Moore, the one person people associate with fighting for those with little to no voice, in the role of Scrooge. Although hampered by the narrow margins of their addled, small minds, more than likely most repubs understand this subconsciously. On a more visceral level, some older repugs don't like the mixing of Christmas with politics.

At least, this is what some of us have pieced together from talking with our right wing family members and acquaintances. We were blabbing at a little cafe when a woman at a nearby table, obviously of repug ilk, interrupted and said, "It's a little unsavory to take a beautiful Christmas story and interject Michael Moore into the role of Scrooge. That idiot could never have the change of heart Scrooge did." (I'm paraphrasing only a little.)

They should have parodied "Silence of the Lambs" instead. :D
