McSame's career bought and paid for by mobsters.
Then in 1982, McCain ran for Congress. That takes some quick money, and McCain had access to it-- thanks to his father in law (whose employees at his liquor distributorship were 'persuaded' to donate thousands of dollars to McCain), and one of Hensley's friends, Charles Keating of the Lincoln S&L (I won't get into the Lincoln S&L scandal here because it is pretty well known by now that McCain was one of the 'Keating Five.') To seal the deal, Jim Hensley and Cindy Hensley McCain invested $359,100 in one of Keating's projects. In fact, when McCain first ran for the Senate, in 1986, even Kemper Marley, through his son Kemper Jr. (who was now running United Liquor-- Marley himself had become politically radioactive) donated money to him.

It has been said that the Mafia never really left, they have just moved upscale. That is certainly the case in Las Vegas, where the casinos are corporations and run in a businesslike manner (so a Bugsy Siegel would be an anachronism, but I'm also not sure I'd want to make an enemy out of some of the folks who have those offices on the top floor.) The original Cosa Nostra may have been largely broken up, but the remnants of the Mafia are still around, mostly in fat family bank accounts and people they have helped push into positions of power, and John McCain is privvy to one and is the other.

4. A Lot Of Real Estate Games And Scams
Years ago I heard about how the Chicago mob had moved big time into the real estate markets of Arizona...financing the building of golf clubs and resorts in the area...speculating in the rising land prices and using these transactions along with the big influence they had on bankers like Keating to launder all sorts of other money.

Also, one more factor is the strong mob ties within both the Liquor industry and the teamsters union in the 80's. Ya gotta bet that Hemsley had some kind of protection or benefactors to build up his distributorship to the size it became and all the seedy characters he's had to kick money to. Just like the mobsters in other places, the key to protecting their games was to control the government...especially Congresscriters and Senators to keep the FBI away.

Ya figure by the late 80's, the money to be made in speculating in real estate and stocks and other financial games we're now paying for were far more lucrative even for the mob than the "skim" from hookers and drug sales. Our new syndicate wears Brooks Brothers suits and their addresses are on Wall Street.

7. Gramps Is Quite The High Roller
From what we've seen of his campaign style, you gotta believe Gramps has blown a lot of cash rolling the bones over the years. But ya gotta feel like when he walked into a house, he got the royal treatment...comped to the gills and any losses covered by other "considerations".

Cheers...

6. from one of the links I just gave you.
In 1948 fifty two employees of Kemper Marley's Arizona liquor monopoly, UNITED LIQUOR, went to prison on federal liquor violations, including Jim Hensley, the father-in-law of Senator John McCain. Hensley was the General Manager of UNITED LIQUOR. On the basis of this, some people might feel UNITED LIQUOR could be described as organized crime. The slick attorney who kept Marley out of this trial and out of prison and sent McCain's father-in-law to prison in his place was William Rendquist ----currently the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court! Al Lizanitz worked for 25 years as Kemper Marley's PR man. He discusses the above bolded test. Interviewing Lizantz conjures up images of THE GODFATHER PART I. BDQ 8-12-97)

It was the judgement of this court that Jim Hensley would be prohibited from working in the liquor industry from then on. Of course such judgments meant nothing to Marley. After Jim Hensley got out of prison, Marley arranged a BUDWIESER distributorship for Hensley

which is now in the hands of Senator John McCain and reported to be worth $200 million.

10. AND THIS!
Perhaps by now readers are beginning to understand how a phenomena like Charles Keating could arise in such a political climate. It is not necessary to mention how lavishly Keating paid off the local politicians. DeConcini $72,000 --- McCain $112,000 --- a shopping center deal with McCain's wife that netted almost a half million in 6 months --- a $200 million dollar unsecured load to DeConcini's campaign manager, Ron Ober. This only scratches the surface. All cannot be told in so short an article. With this background let us examine more in more detail.

15. Reminds Me Of The Teevee Ads....
In the 60's, 70's and 80's, I remember a couple of developments in Arizona that would advertise on Chicago TV. The place became the Florida of the midwesterners...and now just take a cruise around Scottsdale or Mesa and see the many developments, strip malls and many other "creature comforts" that were build over the past 20 years...the front money had to come from somewhere. Real Estate was always a good gamblers chip...something you could move quickly and the skim went in many pockets.

Thanks for all the links...I've got a lot to read today.

This accelerating stealing contest can have only one conclusion. Some day soon the voters of Arizona will take possession of the government here. They came very close to doing this with Governor Ev Mecham.

8. McCain was invited to Joe "Joey Bananas" Bonanno 's birthday party
Giuseppe "Joe Bananas" Bonanno (January 18, 1905 – May 12, 2002) was a Sicilian-born American Mafioso who became the boss of the Bonanno crime family. He was nicknamed "Joe Bananas," a name he despised because it made him sound crazy.

Bonanno and his son subsequently moved to Arizona, where he was at one time sent to jail by the FBI to serve time for various charges during his previous stay in that state. In 1983, he wrote his autobiography A Man of Honor. The government seized the opportunity and questioned him about the Commission, hoping to prove its existence. He kept the vow of omertà and answered no questions. Though old and in poor health, he was jailed for nearly a year because of this. When asked if Bonanno would turn state's evidence if he was sentenced to death, Joe Pistone (Donnie Brasco) said, "No. To me he is the last of the real gangsters. He won't talk."

--snip--
The prosecutor, Rudolph W. Giuliani, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, wants to use Mr. Bonanno to show the history of the commission of Mafia leaders. But when Mr. Giuliani asked his first question, about when Mr. Bonanno became the head of a Mafia group, Mr. Bonanno replied, ''I'm too sick to answer the question.

''I obey my doctors because they care for my life,'' he added, leaning back in his chair and sighing deeply.

''In 1933,'' Mr. Giuliani persisted, ''did you become a member of the commission of the Mafia or La Cosa Nostra?''

''My doctors,'' Mr. Bonanno said, ''instructed me and recommended me not to testify because the extreme stress could be fatal.''

<<Some callers, the article said, were upset to read that Gov. Fife Symington of Arizona and Senator John McCain, an Arizona Republican, had sent birthday greetings. (Governor Symington's press secretary said his message had been a machine-signed form letter, while the note from Senator McCain's office, his press secretary said, was written by a staff member declining an invitation for the Senator to attend). >>
