Is Hannity being dropped for Dennis Miller on Fox Radio in other markets?
I listen to NPR in the am - but it replays (locally) and listening to it the second time isn't so great. So I found a rather interesing - and not quite as aggrevating as national conservative talkshow folks - libertarian local am show that I listen to for a few minutes on the am commute. The station is an off shoot of the local fox tv show - and used to promote that it was the 'exclusive (in Indianapolis) station to carry Hannity'. Then the ads stopped. The am guy was talking about doing some afternoon shifts (where he said the listeners didn't quite resonate with him - as in Hannity listeners didn't quite like a libertarian that sometimes mocked the right).

Then the promos switched to being the 'exclusive venue (in Indy) for carrying Dennis Miller starting in late March'. Just got me curious - is this a network wide thing or just a local thing. Some am callers have gone on air stating how much they agreed with the station's taking Hannity off the air. How odd is that? A conservative station with maybe one show that is conservative but focuses locally and sometimes dumps on the conservatives (libertartian views - more so than self-proclaimed libertarian but really a rove-ish mouth piece Niel Boortz) - with callers who dump on Hannity. Is this just local - or has he said/done something recently to push away conservative talk radio listeners?

1. They're both right wing idiots who I would never listen to
So who cares?

4. I didn't know if Hannity had fallen out of favor.
Or if there was a reason why. Or are they banking that an attempt at 'right wing humour' would expand listenership? I wonder if it is a comment per a waning appeal of straightforward rightwing radio (per an attempt to couch it in humour - even if the humour is MORE than lame.) Is this a national trend? Or just local?

2. DMs inane commentary is way over the heads of regular Fox viewers.

5. so why switch jingoistic hannity
to miller? This is a red market. Wonder if it is a bell weather - is rw talk losing its appeal even in red markets - have to try to couch it in 'supposed' humour? Only write because I wonder if it means nothing - or is a bit of a harbinger? (as in move to more "subtle" rw messages via so-called humour as straight forward wingnuttiness might be losing its appeal even in red markets?)

3. I had the misfortune of hearing some RW radio in Boston today
and I heard an ad for the a station touting it as the "new home for Hannity in the afternoon". I get the feeling he might be getting bumped to smaller stations in an attempt to boost their ratings maybe, before getting sold off? Just a guess, but that is how I took the promo. I then had the misfortune of listening to the first 5 minutes of his show as well.

He made a great faux pas too. He meant to call the Dems a bunch of names and instead said Republicans are ... and proceeded to list the disgusting names. That made me laugh. The fact that he didn't catch it himself and restate it made me laugh harder still. I arrived at my destination and luckily was spared anymore of his chatter.

6. Interesting thought...
per moving to smaller stations to boost those ratings (though noone in Indy, yet, seems to be picking him up that I can tell - most that carried other rwingers have been dropping them to go to sports news/talk coverage over the past couple of years) in order to sell off. I will now have to pay attention to see if he gets picked up by a smaller local station. That would be a very interesting strategy - if you are right - if we watch and talk about it as it (if it) happens in different markets - we might just be able to push that into a bigger media discussion (as if it is happening and we keep noting it - so we have to start watching and writing about it - someone beyond DU with bigger readership might pick it up and run with it.)

10. Read this article and tell me what you see there
http://www.fybush.com/sites/2005/site-050916.html

This is the history of this station (WTTP). (note the site it is from too ... very bizzare) BTW, Alex Langer has purchased this station back in 2006.

13. very odd little story
thanks for the link. Does make you wonder what Langer is up to - why he would buy back what appears to have been more than a bit of a money pit.

7. here is a blurb about him and having a show starting in march on Westwood one
http://celebrities.netscape.com/story/2007/01/10/dennis-miller-starting-radio-show-on-westwood-one

that makes me sad because Westwood one used to carry Dr. Demento, hate to have that tainted by Miller being on that network.

8. It happened here in Tampa
Hannity was at 1040am, and now he is at 970am. A local libertarian is replacing him.

14. how long ago?
I find it interesting. Haven't read about anything about waning popularity (if this is a trend - which it may not be) - but maybe it means something?

12. Not such bad news...
if Hannity's stock is down, that's very good news that people are waking up.

Replacing him with Miller seems like a desperation move-- Miller isn't nearly as smooth as Hannity and has this really grating personality. He's not really all that funny, either, with too many inside jokes that crack him, and only him, up.

There is a market for Miller somewhere, he's still around, but if this is the best they can do, they're in real trouble.
