Poll question: Too many damn holidays
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 09:58 PM by RGBolen
I guess just like Independence Day we are supposed to celebrate this one even if it has nothing to do with our own ancestral background and history. Guess that's all part of being assimilated, celebrating other people's war victories and discoveries.

So what are you doing for Columbus day?

21. I will. And then I'll be surprised that I didn't get any. And then I'll remember it's a holiday.
That's how I roll.

12. Christ!... Is it that time of year again?
I don't know which brings out the sob sisters and hand wringers more; Columbus Day or Hiroshima/Nagasaki day.

17. I'm not sobbing or wringing, just doesn't have anything to do with my people.

But you know we're all supposed to assimilate and celebrate things to do with other people's cultures and history.

20. Not finger pointing at you or any one specific individual..
but just making a general observation about the yearly guilt trip and "two minutes hate" fest that's as predictable as the sunrise...if not in this thread, it'll be in another one.

Not that I really give a fuck one way or another... I get holiday pay tomorrow, so all is fine by me. :smoke:

14. Here, Tomorrow is Thanksgiving.........
And I'm not going to go anywhere; unfortunately, I have a serious case of the galloping creeping crud, caught from my neighbour's little charmer.

The best sleep I've gotten since this hit, by the way, was in a recliner with said charmer sleeping on my shoulder.

23. At UNH they always used to have a Lief Erikson parade this weekend.
I was there a long time ago, so I'm not sure if they still do, but I suspect so. "I'll get back to you" when I see today's news.

18. You need several more choices in the poll.
One of which should be: Damn! If only I worked for the Federal Government, I'd have tomorrow off!

At my current job, which I just started two weeks ago, we're not off tomorrow so that we can have the day after Christmas off. I'm not complaining myself, since this is only the second job I've ever had where I actually get paid holidays off -- what a novel idea! And since I wasn't at this law firm last year, I don't really miss having Columbus Day off, although some co-workers have griped a little. The four day Christmas weekend will be nice. And I suspect that most of the staff won't be in on January 2nd, so that will be a very quiet day also.

26. I'm going to be up far too early ..
to take care of my two kids all day as always.

I'm thinking a walk, playing at the park, a trip to the thrift store, the library to get more books, and then letting them watch Ni Hao Kai Lan and Yo Gabba Gabba over and over while I make dinner. :P
