First Stars & Stripes letter requesting Bush's departure from govt.
Edited on Fri Mar-16-07 01:15 AM by lebkuchen
Written by a retired CWO, excerpted. I should send a copy to Lieberman, Nelson, and Pryor since this was the sentiment I was expressing to their aides yesterday...everyone associated with the military is fed up with Bush! Let's get rid of these people and bring the troops home!

Hold Bush responsible

How can the truth be used against us unless the truth is worse than fiction? The hollow, virulent ravings of current and former leaders have created a “live” training area for the enemy, sucked billions of dollars out of the economy, killed hundreds of thousands of civilians and killed or maimed thousands of Americans.

It is time to hold the commander in chief responsible for his inept decisions (“I’m the decider”) and bring an end to this shameful chapter in America history. President Clinton was impeached over perjury; I think what the current president has done is quite a bit worse.

2. I'm so glad a vet has said what needed to be said--hold BUSH responsible.
This is a huge turning point for the paper, the soldiers, and the country.

Senators need to get on-board.

3. The Coulter discussion in that Stars & Stripes was interesting too
One soldier wanted to get rid of her, while another wanted to
balance her with someone from the extreme left.

4. Yeah, there have been a lot of great letters
I've been posting the letters individually lately 1) because it's faster and easier, but more importantly 2) I want Americans stateside to keep troops' issues/concerns on a constant front burner since the supermajority in Congress don't.

The original, though incomplete, list of Stripes letters is here:

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2005/12/18/45138/421

The first letter on the original list was published 4-1/2 years ago, dated Aug. 2002 (excerpted):

War with Iraq unwarranted

Like many Americans, I find myself in the astonishing position of witnessing our government progressively moving toward a major war with Iraq. This news in itself is alarming, but the fact that many U.S. military officers believe that Saddam poses no immediate threat and that the U.S should continue its policy of containment rather than invasion — and that they are being ignored by the Bush administration — disturbs me further.

...

One thing that Americans should be sure of is that this war will destroy the credibility of the United States. The British, Europeans and NATO do not support this war. We Americans should not support this war. The only way this war will be stopped is if Americans stand up to stop it. But, my feeling is that our government believes the American people do not know the difference between a justified and a warranted war.

What about the supposed “incompetence” of our military officials? I believe they have looked at another Iraqi war without bias or hidden agendas. And for that, they prove to be the most competent. After all, it is the men and women in the armed forces who sacrifice their lives to uphold our freedoms. I do not want to see my husband, or any member of our military, sacrifice their life for a war that is not needed or required.
