WARMEST WINTER ON RECORD.

A cherry blossom tree blooming -- in January.

Winter has been world's warmest on record

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- This has been the world's warmest winter since record-keeping began more than a century ago, the U.S. government agency that tracks weather reported Thursday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said the combined global land and ocean surface temperature from December through February was at its highest since records began in 1880.

A record-warm January was responsible for pushing up the combined winter temperature, according to the agency's Web site.

"Contributing factors were the long-term trend toward warmer temperatures, as well as a moderate El Nino in the Pacific," Jay Lawrimore of NOAA's National Climatic Data Center said in a telephone interview from Asheville, North Carolina.

The next-warmest winter on record was in 2004, and the third warmest winter was in 1998, Lawrimore said.

The 10 warmest years on record have occurred since 1995.

2. K&R
Idiots denying global warming - how can they explain that the 10 warmest winters on record have been in the last 12 years?

3. I'll tell you why
because the people in power are there for one reason - to serve the large corporations and steal our money.

confirming global warming is not in their interest.

so they lie, and deny. Why? Because they can.

They have the bully pulpit and they use it. They can say anything they want. It doesn't matter a hill of beans if it's true. The more lies the better. If they told the truth all the time and made one lie, then it would be news. But since they lie virtually every time they open their mouths, there's nothing to report and no one questions it.

there is no limit to what they can lie about. they could and would literally say the world is flat, if it served them to do so.

4. It's been in the 70's & 80's
for the last two weeks here (California's Central Valley). Thought its nice and all, we are at a fraction of the rainfall totals we're supposed to get. You think your food bill is high after the freeze? Just wait. And it was just last summer that we had 5 straight days of 113-115 degree temperatures. I know this is Fresno but that was a record even for us.

6. By the time people realize why this matters it will be too late
Sated with an abundance of nearly every luxury, the average American doesn't really care one whit about the changing climate.

Hotter? Just turn up the AC.

Colder? Turn up the heat.

Drier? Turn on the lawn sprinkler system.

Wetter? Let the gutters drain it all away.

Say, did you see that the price of big screen plasma televisions has dropped? They use a hell of a lot of electricity, so make sure you upgrade your electrical service.

8. Crazy-ass Winter, as well.
Two days ago, it was 70 here. Today, it's barely 30. :scared:

Unfortunately, by the time the government and people begin to seriously act on this......it'll be too late.
