McCain: I almost crashed my plane into Cuba . . . I've been tested!

October 21, 2008

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania (AFP) — John McCain told voters his White House rival Barack Obama was unprepared to handle a national security crisis, citing the US-Russia standoff in 1962 that put the world on the brink of nuclear war.

"I sat in the cockpit on the flight deck of the USS Enterprise off of Cuba. I had a target," McCain said, referring to the 1962 Cuban Missile crisis.

"I know how close we came to a nuclear war and I will not be a president that needs to be tested. I have been tested. Senator Obama has not."

"We know Senator Obama would not have the right response," he said.

2. One less plane that he crashed.
If John McCain was ever in charge of a war with Cuba, I'm gonna need to brush up on my Spanish.
I'm sure he'd fuck that up just like every other military adventure he's had.

5. 13 Days was a good movie.
I'm not sure how sitting in a plane on a runway makes him tested. Its not like he was in the white house at the time or anything.

6. Tested how, exactly?
You made zero decisions that day even if your story is true. Although given your flight history, we are all probably glad that you didn't have to fly your plane.

12. That's my question, exactly. Is McCain saying he was considering alternatives?

8. So ya know I'm ready to nuke Iran
and maybe a few other places too for good measure.

I have no doubt that if the decision had been placed in the hands of John McCain, or people like him, none of us would be alive today. There were armed tactical nuclear missiles on Cuba already when Kennedy put up the naval blockade but nobody in America knew that at the time. If Kennedy had given in to the pressure from the Pentagon generals to start the bombing of Cuba, those missiles would have been fired at our ships and the southern U.S. That would have set off the whole works and we wouldn't be here to chat about it now and assholes like John McCain wouldn't be alive to tout their medals and ribbons as qualification for office.

10. Someone needs to challenge McCain on this, directly.
Is John McCain saying that he was faced with a world-altering decision to make when sitting there in his plane? What decision would that be, specifically? As a pilot, he is there to simply follow orders, so is he saying that he was considering whether or not he would follow those orders?

14. A great decision: whether to piss over the side of his plane onto the flight deck or try to hold it
until relieved.

16. What. A . Fucking. Bullshitter.
"I had a target"

Yeah, like fuck you did.

And even if you did, you had NO CHOICE BUT TO FOLLOW ORDERS.

It's not a pilot's JOB to be TESTED. And knowing John McCain, he would have all too happy to bomb the living shit out of somebody's else's country.

He certainly proved it in Viet Nam.
