Piper Palin and her Louis Vuitton bag ?!?
Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 05:27 AM by leftchick
perhaps she was lugging this for her mother while Sarah throws poor Trig over her shoulder again? Either way it is yet another example of Sarah's elitism. How many 'hockey moms' have these expensive accessories?

The $150,000 hasn't just been spent on Sarah's image - the whole family has benefitted. Here Piper Palin totes a Louis Vuitton bag costing around $650

Someone should ask Palin where she got a counterfeit Louie Vuitton bag and why she is buying designer knock-offs that are illegal to produce.

I believe there are laws against these knock offs. You have to go to back rooms to obtain these, at least in NYC.

48. I think there is a difference between 'fake' and 'counterfeit'.
Some bags are obviously fake. They don't have the same letters in logo's, etc. An example are Coach bags. Instead of the C's they put G's. I've seen these sold on Canal St. in the open.

The counterfeit Coach bags, that have the actual logos, are sold in private rooms. Counterfeit Rolex watches are sold behind closed doors, too. I've never seen them displayed but you can always get one if you ask.

I think there was a big crack down on counterfeits in Chinatown a few years ago and they aren't sold so openly anymore.

7. Shouldn't These Kids Be In School?
Sure seems the Obama children are doing that.

The Palin bunch are used as props...there to insulate Sarah Barracuda from being booed too badly or having to deal with any serious questions. The hopes were the corporate media would fall in love with these kids and it's turned into a national disgrace as we learn what terribly dsyfunctional parents these kids have. I honestly feel sorry for them and can understand why they are so screwed up.

11. An "Experience Of A Lifetime"...
Playing Devil's Advocate...the only reason I could see bringing kids along is how unique this experience would be for them...the travel and history, but I think that's beyond the "Palin". We've seen how this lady has used her kids to further her ambitions...or serve as some strange support system.

I can't help noticing that you won't see a speech where Gramps or Sarah Barracuda are on their own...Gramps always has the Beer Queen nearby (surely keeping track of her investment...and doesn't she look like something the cat dragged in these days) or one of his Senate "posse"...Goober or Traitorman.

I still have this image of the Palin family walking into Mall of America and their eyes lighting up...kinda like Jethro and Ellie Mae when they saw the first seement pond.

44. I have no idea. It's her mannerisms that suggested the comparison.
She seems to be long on looks and girlish flirtations, and short on substance and knowledge.

Truthfully, I've met several dancers who would be a better vice president, are smarter, and are more knowledgeble.

But they do love Louis Vuitton, that's no lie.

15. It probably is not fake
Palin has her kids carry things for their mother. Sometimes they are carrying Trig (especially the older girls.) and sometimes they carry a bag. Palin needs to shake hands and doesn't need to fumble with a bag.

Just a daughter helping her mom.

27. Extremely ugly. Hideous is the word that come to mind.
I never did understand the attraction. All I can figure is that if it can be identified as something that costs a lot, the way it looks is secondary. Good thing I find them hideous....My budget doesn't allow more than $30 or so for a handbag. I've had no problem finding attractive options for that amount. There are so many more important things to spend money on.

37. You can get one on the streets of New York for $20
I saw one in New Orleans' French Market for about that much.

But the bigger question is still, "why?". I think you are right, it is all about the image. It is interesting to me that people will buy a $20 ugly handbag in the hopes that it will fool people into thinking it is the real thing. There are so many fake ones around that all are now assumed to be fake. That would seem to diminish the impact of the real one, no?

I find fashion interesting anyway. Sarah Palin pays $150,000 for wardrobes that you can get for much much less. What's that about?

or I have more money than I know what to do with
or I have more money than taste

eta: I personally think bags with prominent logos are butt-ugly, but if Louis Vuitton wants to give me one I'd consider carrying it. For a while, at least, before I pass it on. I can think of a lot of other things I'd rather spend my money on, but tastes vary.

25. It's Part of the Image Makeover
To lower income voters, the messages are: in spite of being average (just like YOU), the Palins are far above average; this is the result of the WASP work ethic.

To upper income voters: don't worry, they're not white trash.

I can't bring myself to criticize anyone for the Palin family's wardrobe expenses without indicting our whole, shallow, culture.

31. Most say that bag is a counterfeit
Meaning Vitton never got a penny for their intellectual property.

Meaning some low life Chinese knock off shop owner made the money.

Meaning the skilled workers who create the real bags lost an income opportunity.

Meaning Caribou Barbie hadda have a recognizable status symbol instead of honestly made products.

What's wrong with good old American bags?

BTW, here's an interesting book on how the luxury goods industry has become mass-market, with shoddy goods sold to the name-conscious at inflated prices. I stick with my good old Le Sac, a.k.a., the Bag of Infinite Capacity: going on 8 years and still reliable. I got it as Ross, IIRC.

I like to look at the ads in the NYT Sunday Style section to see what's the highest price handbag offered: there're usually a few in the $3000+ range.

yes they all get botox and carry louis vuitton bags or whatever, that's because hockey/soccer moms in their hummers are, in fact, the elite well-to-do

middle middle class moms have to actually work, they don't have time to drive the whole sports team in the SUV/hummer to sporting events
