How many conservatives do I know - at least some - who've been to San Francisco, thought it was 'beautiful', 'fun', blah blah blah, but then talk about it like it's the Bermuda Triangle of gays, 'far-left liberals', and all that wild, crazy, weird (to them) California shit. Some of my relatives have been to England, Germany, and so on, with the same results. Oh golly gee, those places and those trips were just great, wunnerful, but Oh My God we don't want SOCIALISM now, do we?!? It's all I can do not to say 'well, uh, did people in those countries seem horribly oppressed, wretched, in rags, Put In Their Place By Big Brother, etc etc etc?!?

The Conservative Mind: Never to Be Understood.

1. "Frisco" is an insult to us here
We never call our city that and cringe when anyone does. Maybe she meant it like when they say "Democrat" party.

8. It's like fingernails down a chalk board.
I'm a former San Franciscan and always corrected people when they said the "F-word".

18. Exactly

The only one who has a right to use 'Frisco' is Eric Clapton - and even then, only when singing "Mean ol Frisco"

If you want to abbreviate it, it's simply "The City."

7. Only people who just fell off the turnip truck say "Frisco"
It's The City, and you pronounce the capitolizations if you don't want a flogging.

9. I'm rather surprised she did not call it "San Fran-sissy-co"
Such childishness is more what I expect from her.

15. Yep
I live in Santa Cruz and we call it "The City". People as far south as Salinas call it "The City". Frisco is a no no.

even knowing I lived there years ago.

In case you're wondering, yup, he is: I usually refer to him hereabouts as "Repuke Stepdad". :eyes:

21. Probably 80% of the people you see stumbling down Bourbon Street
on any given night -- you know, right near all those "lazy, shiftless, indolent people who just want government handouts", or at least the ones who made it back :grr: -- are conservatroids. :eyes:
