If Obama wins, will The Daily Show survive?
They have lived large off the hypocrisy of the Bush blunders that are sometimes comical in their most raw forms. TDS has gotten so much more material out of this administration than they will out of any upstanding administration that it's reasonable to expect that they will have a tough act to follow if Obama gets in. I think they are supremely talented writers, but they will never again reap the comedic harvest of the last 8 years, whether it's McCain or Obama.

Stewart eluded to this issue after the last election. There was a dark, damp spell cast over the show that night, but he said, "well, it looks like we'll be around for another 4 years."

5. I would like to see the Daily Show work on destroying the creds
of Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, and all the other right wingtards on hate radio and hate TV. There's plenty of reich wing propaganda to work with.

14. Just because the Dems are in the White House...
it doesn't mean that Stewart, et. al. won't keep doing what they do best.

What I'm wondering is if The Colbert Report will create an alternate universe reporting on the daily activities of "President" McCain and "Vice President" Palin...

If so, January 20:

"In a show of partisan unity, President McCain asked Senator Obama to stand in for him at his inauguration, just to show that there were no hard feelings. Joe Biden, meanwhile, stood in for Sarah Palin, who was out hunting moose with her newborn grandchild, Zamboni."

15. Hell Yes!
The GOP losers will be ruthless, non stop every day attacking President Obama lobbing endless wads of sour grapes at him, conjuring up one frivolous scandal after another. It will provide lost of comedy material for Stewart/Colbert

17. Of course it will. The question is what will happen on DU
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 07:08 PM by Chovexani
Way too many people around here think that just because Stewart and TDS staff are all flaming liberals that the show is a) a news show b) an arm of the progressive movement. Too many people on DU don't understand that it's a comedy show, and its first priority is to be funny. I'm sure Obama and/or Biden will do plenty that is worthy of mockery, as did the Clinton admin and every other admin, D or R. And because Stewart and Co. are brilliant, they will jump on it and make comedy gold out of it.

I expect a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth on here when that happens. There will be crying about "betrayal" and the like. Umpteen subject lines reading "John Stewart is dead to me" (oddly, folks like that can never get his name right) and shit like that. The tears will be delicious, frankly. :P

Politicians of both parties will never stop being ridiculous. Their jobs are safe.

18. My dad always calls him "John Daily"
As in "That John Daily is a druggie! He's always talking about pot!" or "Your mom likes that druggie Daily."

(Oh well, at least he's voting for Obama. After Hilary lost he got really angry and for the first time in his 60 years was saying he might vote for a Republican. We got in a lot of arguments about it. Then McCain chose Palin.

That snapped him back out of it.)

22. Welcome to DU!
Your post made me laugh....John Daily!

Dave Chappelle put out a lame movie about pot called 'Half Baked' in which that druggie Daily has a funny cameo about viewing things "on weeeeeeeeedddddd". Your Dad may enjoy it. }(

:hi:

Your dad sounds like the fake old man that started The Onion. Except with less fear of zombies.

Good that he's voting correctly though, lol.

19. If you're old like me,
or I should say, have experience on the planet, you may remember 'That was the Week that Was'. It did a report on the political goings on but they used the whole world to gather material. Plus HBO did some kind of satire, spoof show about politics in the 80's. My point? They will adjust to a different landscape and keep going. Maybe

20. I do remember "That Was the Week That Was" & its catchy theme song. :)
I loved it & was deeply disappointed when it was cancelled.

In these craziest of times where logic & common sense are sorely missing, I hope the very-clever "Daily Show" can keep us sane a lot longer that "TWTWTW" did.
