My housemate had some people over tonight
We're all college students.
Three of them voting for McCain

One reason: "I do whatever my family tells me to do" <--Military family. Her uncle is Carl Mundy I believe. :eyes:

The other two? "I dunnoo..."
I start going over the pros and cons of either candidate. They all agree with Obama when it comes to *the issues*
They're voting for McCain because they're ignorant tools who don't know any better and believe what they're told.

'Course, these are some of the only people I know who are actually voting for McCain. 5 of the 6 people I live with are voting for or have already voted for Obama, and the other one simply isn't voting. :D
Basically reinforces my belief that republicans are clueless.

1. What college? What years?
Interested in 'education?' Sounds pretty sad to me.

4. It's a state school
SUNY Oswego.
It seems a lot of students here only attend because that's what they're 'supposed' to do.
There is a community of intelligent and thoughtful kids here, though.

Two of the girls in my example are freshmen, the other one I believe is a junior.

Believe me, I can't wait to graduate from this cesspool and go on to grad school, hopefully at a campus where I'll get more of a "liberal" experience.

7. Hope you'll survive, RedCapped.
My daughter's a junior at West Virginia U, she loves it, and has told me of lots of political discussions, including in classes. (I graduated from Miami U many moons ago, had good, interesting friends, and there were some political discussions, but not tons.)

And she and her sister are very interested, because of our family, I guess.

Good Luck!

12. Thanks!
Social Science is my thing, so I am usually fortunate enough to take classes focused more around discussion than pointless memorization and multiple choice exams. This gives me a good opportunity to express my views without seeming obnoxious.
I find that people have a tendency to see things in a more "progressive" manner once they are given a chance to actually contemplate "the issues"

I think that's basically the problem. Most people just don't sit down to think.

But you're right, it must have something to do with family. I'm so lucky to have two teachers as parents. They've given me a thirst for knowledge.. and here I am.

6. Overheard in the hall today ...

I was coming back from lunch heading for my office today and heard a student talking to another student about tomorrow.

They were having a conversation somewhat like what you were having. He was voting for Obama. She was voting for McCain, and he was challenging her on why.

I lingered in their general area long enough to hear some of it.

One of her reasons: Obama wants to "clone humans." That's why "he supports abortion."

I left at that point. It was either that or slap her.

Given the "WHAT!?!?" I heard coming from the guy, I figured he had this. :)

10. Unfortunately,
those who get their info from the wrong 'media' think they know what they're doing.

9. Their responses are often just outrageous
One of my long term friends decided to bring up politics, knowing full well that I am about as liberal as they come.
For some reason she finds it in her best ask me who my candidate is. Obviously I respond "Obama"
She doesn't want to vote for him because he has "terrorist" ties
Funny thing? She has no idea what the hell the Weather Underground was. Basically, she overheard some propaganda slandering Obama, made some baseless assumptions, and came to the conclusion that since Obama is brown and his name sounds "middle eastern" he must be friends with Osama. :eyes:

Needless to say, this person is no longer my friend.

13. I'd give it a shot, but
I am not shy about who I am. if you know me, you know I'm liberal, and you know damn well I'm not voting for McCain. I have a feeling she brought it up just to argue. Oh well

15. Weather Underground ...

Isn't that the website where you can get weather forecasts and stuff, kinda like the Weather Channel? <-- This was an actual comment someone made to me when I was talking about this with someone else. He was a Republican, voting for McCain, but not happy about it because he thought this was a stupid campaign tactic. Why was it such a big deal for Obama to know someone who used to work for Weather Underground? Was it because they were non-profit or something?

I hate it when people insist on being stupid in front of me.

People whose highest personal aspiration is to clean sewers the rest of their life have more intelligence than some of these people.
