I got to my polling place (in Blue Dot Decatur) at 7 a.m. The line was about 4 times as long as I've ever seen in a decade of voting at this location: out the door, across the parking lot, and way around the building. Everybody was in a good mood, but not exuberant -- just calmly positive and purposeful. As we waited in line, the sun rose and bathed the fall leaves in beautiful golden light against a gorgeous blue sky. Several times passing cars tooted their horns and gave us a thumbs-up or an encouraging wave.
The whole experience took just over an hour, even though we had 10 (Diebold) screens worth of votes. The crew running our polling place was very efficient, and did a great job of herding us cats. I reviewed my ballot several times, going back to check votes and looking at all screens before submitting, and I saw no errors.
