California is one screwed up state!!

In Santa Clara County we tried to increase our sales tax to get BART ( Bay Area Rapid Transit) into the South Bay ( IE. San Jose) ... BUT in this state ya need to pass a tax increase with a 2/3rds majority.. or 66.67+% of the vote .. The measure passed with 66.4% of the vote .. so it failed.. BUT to remove rights from human beings and pass a constitutional amendment you only need 50% +1 vote.. So gays can no longer get married..

1. That surprised me as well
If the Constitutional Amendment was executed in the Legislature it would have required a 2/3 vote as well.
But because its an initiative the bar is lower.

2. Two steps forward, one step back. It's America. I don't understand
wht this happened in California. I honestly think the wording of the amendment might have confused some, but I don't know if that really explains it. So far, this is the one platform of President elect Obama that I don't like. Maybe once in office he will change his stand on marriage, or at least speak of tolerance which may help the next time.

3. So why don't you come up with a plan instead of blaming everyone?
Yes, it's a horrible injustice. But all I have heard is how it's someones fault. It's the black, it's the whites, it's the red part, it's the state of California. We love animals more than gays, etc.

Really, stop being the victim. I could tell prop 8 would pass because it was EVERYWHERE. Where was the anti-8 campaign? It limped in during the last couple of weeks during the election. You were out spent, out strategizied, out campaigned.

So make a plan, fix the constitutional amendment procedure. Make a court case. Just stop blaming everyone and get to work.

I've spent the past eight years dealing with a repub administration that did everything to demonize me for being a liberal. Tired of it.
