Senator Shelby - How much does Alabma get back in Federal dollars each year?
He was on Meet The Press speaking against helping the auto companies. I just find it odd that a Senator from Alabama should be holding that position. A state that probably gets more Federal money than it pays. And yes, they do.

1. Most southern states (GOP strongholds) get much more money
than the rest of the country. Mississippi has the highest per capita, I believe, with Alabama not far behind. These are the same people who were shouting "don't spread the wealth around" yet go and collect their handouts just like everybody else.

2. I don't begrudge the states and their needs
It's the hypocrisy that galls me every time I hear them railing against others getting some of the pie.

3. I'd say 90% of GOP talking points contain overt irony and hypocrisy

5. It might be important to remember that Alabama
Edited on Sun Nov-16-08 12:08 PM by Mudoria
is home to foreign carmakers who compete against American automakers. Might that be why Shelby is opposed to the domestic automakers being helped out?

7. NJ gets about...
$.50 on every dollar it pays in. I try to explain that to the members of the usual slavering mob who piss and moan about our taxes, but I might as well be explaining Hawking's physics to a gerbil. Does. Not. Penetrate. Bone. In. Head.

In a country with a dangerous population percentage of thick and dull people, NJ reliably offers some of the thickest and dullest.

9. Don't cross the Delaware.
Ignorance on taxes appears to be a condition of citizenship in this great land. In defense of fellow Jerseyans I think it's fair to suggest that property taxes in this state are something of a problem.
