Right or wrong, if they let the auto industry go bust....

...they're going to have 3 million + people out of work. Let's see them deal with that! People don't deserve to have their entire lives destroyed because some business executives decided to fuck around and not have a viable business plan. Workers of the US! Unite ! Revolt!

1. my personal opinion, which I have not heard on radio
or TV is that yes give them the loans BUT the first thing they will HAVE to do is replinish the pension funds they have raided until they are up to where they should have been before all the money was stolen. THEN "re-tool". Also recind the tax break big ass SUV's get unless you can certify it's commercial use.

2. Why would they be out of work?!?
Nationalize the factories and develop green, affordable transportation.

3. I'm saying if the auto industry fails....

Your average factory worker is not in a position to "nationalize the factories." People in government and industry have to do what is ever necessary. If they don't, then there will be a LOT of people hurting bad.

4. Im saying let the fail, and have the government nationalize the companies
The employees will still have jobs in the now government owned business, which can emphasize the production innovative green cars and offer rebates for tax payers that buy them. Profits can be used to increase worker pay and go into public sector projects like Universal Healthcare.

We need an American Green Volkswagen type project now.

5. this is a great idea
the automakers had an opportunity to develop more fuel efficient cars and they chose to make gas-guzzling SUV's instead.

6. Exactly. Some things the free market will not solve...
Or it will not solve quickly. Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of time anymore.

People should research what Germany did with the Volkswagen (minus the whole Hitler thing). We need a national movement for an affordable, efficient vehicle that everyone can afford, and a patriotic campaign behind it. We need payment plans for them setup, tax rebates, etc... We also need moderate tariffs on foreign vehicles; proceeds of which can be used to retool factories for the green technology and retrain workers (if necessary). Start pounding them out in masses and jumpstart our dead industrial sector.

7. But no one was concerned when GM announced $16 Billion in new Plants in Mexico?
..why is anyone concerned now? Just go to the Mexican Govt and get the money they need. Easy.
