Michael Medved LOVES the Hillary appointment!
I just watched him on cnn praising Obama's choice of SoS. nuff said.

HILLARY CLINTON: A REASSURING CHOICE
Posted by: Michael Medved at 7:23 PM
Hillary Clinton is a reassuring choice for Secretary of State not in spite of her political ambitions, but because of them. Her acceptance of the position makes it unthinkable that she’ll challenge Obama in 2012, but she becomes his natural successor in 2016 when she’ll be 69--- three years younger than McCain is today. Her continued presidential dreams will lead her to prevent a dangerous, precipitous withdrawal from Iraq, and make it much less likely that she’ll push hard for Israel to make dangerous concessions to its terrorist adversaries. Hillary’s chief political base is New York and betrayal of the Jewish state would sharply reduce her popularity at home. Supporters of the War on Terror in both Washington and Jerusalem should feel some relief at Obama’s choice of his old rival to shape his foreign policy.

1. Does anyone think that Senator Clinton went Hawkish for political gains?
Back in 2002 and 2003 it was really popular in this country to support the wars abroad. If you spoke out against it, you did so in more hushed tones depending on the company. Perhaps now that more people want to talk and get out of Iraq, we will.

2. I think a lot of Democrats voted rather hawkishly for political reasons
They were too spineless to vote no because they were afraid that the no vote would be used against them in the upcoming election in 2002 and a good number of go along to get along Democrats ended up getting their asses handed to the in the elections that year. Unfortunately, the lesson of standing up for what you believe has not sunk in. We still have Democrats making deals with the devil for political purposes. (FISA and impeachment off the table anyone?)

Regards

5. What nonsense. The whole premise being that Clinton will
run when she's 69 ( I doubt she will) or,even more nonsensical that she will bend the foreign policy of Obama with an eye toward her constituency in New York. What ,exactly, is the difference between the Clinton and Obama's stance on Israel? Clue: there isn't one.
