the Siegelman/Alabama dichotomy on Democratic Underground
I don't really understand this relationship.

Democratic Underground loves Don Siegelman, that was elected governor by the people of Alabama, and had his re-election stymied by the Republicans.

Yet at the same time, and for all time, the state of Alabama is the greatest force of evil in the universe.

Make up your mind already.

1. I think the reason some view AL as "the greatest force of evil"
has to do with how politics is played there. Siegelman represents the "New Alabama", one rising above its racist past. That the GOP is willing to play dirty pool with him and play the race card to stay in office--this is what is objected to.

FWIW, I live in Arkansas, a state going red that has its share of racists and homophobes.
