But what about the people he was having these conversations with?

As soon as the words "money" and "appointment" came into any conversation I had been having with Blago I would have responded with, "Hey Rod, wait a minute, I can't hear you. I think we must have a bad connection. What? What? I cant hear you. Are you still there Rod?", and I would have eased the phone into its cradle.

Then I would have jumped in my car and drove over to Blagos house and personally slapped him silly for discussing such a thing with me over a telephone.

What were these other people thinking?

4. My take on it

The people who Blago conversed with didn't show surprise at his stunning behavior and failed to report it. I think their behavior is an unfortunate testament to the depths of corruption in Illinois government. In other words, they're so accustomed to dirty politics that it didn't phase them at all.

Exhibit 1 is our three convicted felon governors out of the seven before Blago: Otto Kerner was convicted on 17 counts of bribery, conspiracy, perjury, and related charges, Dan Walker was convicted of receiving fraudulent loans, George Ryan was convicted on 18 counts of steering state business to cronies for bribes, of gutting corruption-fighting efforts to protect political fundraising, and of misusing state resources for political gain.

5. He has a greed problem
plain and simple. He doesn't need rehab. He needs about 15 to 20 or whatever the statutes mandate. He can use the time to re-evaluate his priorities.

7. "Only little people pay taxes." "I just wanted my stuff back."
(Helmesley, Simpson,)
Go right down the line: Michael Jackson, Martha Stewart. Famous people become detached from reality and then eventually it either costs them their marriages, their children, their friends or their careers.

Occasionally, it even costs them their freedom.

This actually happens all the time. Look at Zimbabwe.

Humans have always had the capacity for self denial and self deception.

Sometimes it even happens in groups, like when we borrow more than we can pay off, risk more than we can leverage, and assume property values will always continue to rise.

Unfortunately, this guy is all too human.

Instead of looking at it as something important to learn, people will wring their hands and point and laugh.

And then, instead of learning our lesson about gun control, another child will be killed, and we'll all wring our hands and point blame.

This crap continues until we all demand publicly funded elections. Election reform. Election reform.Election reform.Election reform.Election reform.Election reform.
