HOW IRONIC THE MEDIA IS ALL OUT AGAINST CAROLINE
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 10:35 AM by Sebass1271
and some DUers too, but when JEB Bush announced he was seeking the senate office in 2010 it was fine with the media pundits and took news in a celebratory way.

I hate the media. I don't appreciate Duers that are acting like those pundits. Caroline deserves the chance to serve. Obama has inspired her to do so, to serve the public something she never could have imagined. She is smart and a constitutional scholar. What else do we want?

3. Even Bill Press today was saying she's unqualified.
Personally, I don't really care that much whose ass they put in the seat.

25. I don't think Press said she was UNqualified, just that there are others who are more qualified.
I have nothing against CK being senator. But she shouldn't get there based on the dynasty issue. The governor of NY should select the best person for the job, not just someone who makes us feel nostalgic for JFK.

27. Notice they keep using that exact word: "qualified"
And it's been a pretty effective meme.

32. Honestly, what are the qualifications?? Where do you fill out that
application. Hell, as much as I like him, what qualifies Al Franken to be a senator?? In order to be an elected official, one must be likable. Little else is required. Hell, look at Monkeyboy, there is your proof one doesnt have to be qualified to be elected in our government.

She is brilliant and a person of substance not just a "name" like Jeb!

Did I miss something ~ who would be better and why?

10. I'm not necessarily anti-Caroline Kennedy, but there's a TON of other great possibilities...
Steve Israel, Malcolm Smith, Gregory Meeks, Nydia Velazquez ... hell, I could go on. And in many ways, I could argue that any of them would make a better representative for the state of New York than Caroline Kennedy.

12. I'm not saying she wouldn't. I'm responding to the question asked...
which was who would be better? And I think there's a lot of other potential candidates, many of whom already have legislative experience serving the people of New York. I'm not necessarily arguing that Caroline Kennedy is a bad candidate. Just that there are plenty of other ones.

17. Honestly, why is legislative experience considered so important by some here?
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 10:58 AM by pnwmom
She is smart, she's a lawyer who has writtten about Constitutional law, she "plays well with others," she's been watching Ted legislate all her life, she is progressive -- she can figure the legislative stuff out.

And she offers things few other candidates in NY can -- the ability to pick up the phone and call Obama. A proven talent for fundraising (and on a national basis). An unblemished name that will bring her attention in the Senate that few other junior Senators would receive.

18. Oy. Nevermind. Forget I said anything.
Caroline Kennedy is the one and only possibility for the Senate position from New York. Anyone who says otherwise is a contemptible fuckwad who should be burned at the stake at the first available opportunity.

22. Sorry. Didn't mean to snap at you.
Like I said earlier, I don't really have a problem with Caroline Kennedy as the senator from New York. I just think that, contrary to what a lot of people are saying, there are plenty of other great candidates, and I'm a little perturbed by suggestions that there aren't.

As for your specific question, obviously, previous experience matters in any job. And if one has previous legislative experience, that means he or she already has a familiarity with the ins and outs of the process. That's all.

24. Is the fact that you've never heard of these people important?
That is, should the pick for New York Senator be made based on which candidate is the most famous? It seems to me that's a pretty bad litmus test.

28. My opinion is important when Caroline is "qualified" as well.

After GW was selected for 8 years, the Bar for all things political has reached a new low.

That said, Caroline has enormous talents in many areas and she should not be put down.

Yes! I am proudly supporting Caroline and not just because she is a Kennedy.

5. Which Media Is That?
The MSM "unbiased" media, the RW media, or the leftie blogosphere?

So far, only the leftiesphere seems to have a REAL problem, and the rightiesphere seems to be stoking it. I wonder what's up with that?

9. the ENTIRE MEDIA
I have been watching cnn, msnbc and reading newspapers, all are opposed to her and what rally saddens me is that ppl from our own party is not supporting her decision to be considered.

Mika, the witch was grilling Caroline this morning, I couldn't believe her evilness, i remember how opened and willing she was to support an unintelligent and real unprepared woman to be VP as it was/is Sarah Palin.

I can't stand Mika.

7. I don't understand why people are getting all worked up over it.
The seat is going up for re-election in 2 years anyway. I think it's a good way to work her in and if people don't like her they can vote her out in the next primaries.

good works for all - therefore media and corporations and repukes don't want her - they all make me sick - the DU'ers here who are against her are probably repukes or brainwashed by them

13. She "never could have imagined?"
Her kids are nearly grown up. The time is right.

This is the age when most women get involved. She was a dogged campaigner for Kerry also.

interested in running for anything. She kept a low profile for years only appearing to help our Presidential Candidates. She is a good Democrat and a very smart one too.
