LAHORE: Reporters attending a joint press conference of United States President George W Bush and Afghan President Hamid Karzai were asked to remove their shoes to avoid any ‘untoward incident’, a private TV channel reported on Monday.

A French reporter said that prior to the press conference, Afghan president’s spokesman Saimick Herwai appealed to Afghan reporters to give respect to the US president and address him as ‘his excellency’.

On Sunday, an Iraqi journalist had hurled his shoes and an insult at the US president when he was shaking hands with the Iraqi premier.
