Poll question: Should people have the right to organize boycotts of businesses?
Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 10:27 PM by gollygee
I'm not just talking about El Coyote. Any business, for any reason. Is it a reasonable way to cause change? Is it wrong? Is it sometimes reasonable and other times wrong?

I'm honestly surprised to hear liberals saying that protesting businesses by organizing boycotts is wrong. Maybe I'm confused about what people are thinking? If it's wrong in some cases and reasonable in others, please explain what the difference is in a fair boycott and an unfair one.

(I edited the subject line because I think what I've read is that personally not buying something somewhere is "ok" but organizing a boycott is "not ok". And I'm wondering why and if that's true for all organized boycotts.)

You have to go halfway or more down the thread but look for the word "boycott" over and over again.

5. It's constitutionally guaranteed. Freedom of association, or non- association and freedom of speech

There's quite a bit of talk about how it's unfair to boycott this business. I'm sometimes surprised by the things I read here.

10. I don't like being a part....
of perpetuating the problem. I think boycotting is the least I can do. I put it on a par with emailing. It might not produce the results I hope for but it has a positive effect on me.
