New SEC chief gave Bernard Madoff's son a job
Mary Schapiro, Barack Obama's choice to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), previously appointed one of Bernard Madoff's sons to a regulatory body that oversees American securities firms.

It has emerged that in 2001, Ms Schapiro, currently chief executive of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (Finra), employed Mark Madoff to serve on the board of the National Adjudicatory Council — the division that reviews disciplinary decisions made by Finra.

1. She is a total insider. She was in a position to do something and did nothing
Schapiro served as a Commissioner of the SEC under Reagan in 1988 and was reappointed by Bush 42 in 1989. She then serve as acting SEC Chairman in the Clinton Administration and then appointed as chairwoman of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission in 1994. Schapiro is currently the CEO of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

She watched it all go down and just quietly sat back and played the game.

2. I agree. We will see what happens, but the agent of change appears more of the same
Don't get me wrong, without hesitation I would still vote for Obama over mccain, but it is quite troubling to see that more and more of his actions as status quo

We will know within a year exactly who we voted for

3. If Mary Schapiro’s the answer. . ...it was probably a stupid question
A few bad picks can be overlooked.

But one is hard pressed to find a few good picks among the many bad ones.

It is hard to hold fast to hope the outcome in a year is going to be any different than what the signals today are saying.

4. No surprise who we voted for
The primary came down to a choice between two Dem centrists, corporate ties and all. The general election was between one of those centrists, and a narcissistic bully who generally failed all tests.

Given the choices, we chose wisely. Given the choices.

Just don't expect quick peace, or universal health care, no radical change.

...

(go kucinich!)
