Steam valve blamed for House building evacuation
6 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — An open steam valve in a lawmaker's office caused the evacuation of a House office building on Capitol Hill, police said Thursday.

Capital Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider said occupants of the Longworth House Office Building were let back in after police and fire officials confirmed that reports of smoke or steam coming from an office were the result of an open steam valve.

The incident occurred in the office that had been used by Rep. Randy Kuhl, R-N.Y., who was defeated in the November election.

4. Yikes! I used to work in that building
The building is mostly Congressional member offices, as well as committee offices and hearing rooms, and there is a cafeteria and gift shop in the basement.
