Get ready to watch Obama and the Democrats steamroll these Republican motherscratchers
I just have a feeling things are going to start happening real quickly after the inauguration. Almost too fast to keep up. Stuff is going to come so fast the Republicans aren't going to know what hit them.

Don't believe me? Save this thread and tell me I was wrong in 6 months or so.

And here I was worried this place would get boring after the election. It won't be.

7. That's the point behind today's speech.
Note the direct and very public call for immediate action from Congress.

Obama's been repeating this call for Congress to act several times already, and he's going to be keeping it up.

The President's bully-pulpit is a powerful thing - even the most unpopular President in history was able to use that bully pulpit to jam FISA, the Military Commissions Act, Iraq War funding, the surge and Kyl-Lieberman down Congress's throat, even when Congress was controlled by the Democrats.

Obama's going to use that bully-pulpit far more expertly than Bush could ever dream to, and he's going to use it to accomplish useful things instead of destructive things.

Reid is right now under very intense pressure to get the Senate off its ass and get a stimulus bill through Congress NOW! Same with Pelosi (though personally, while I'm not happy with Pelosi because of FISA and putting impeachment off the table, decent legislation tends to cruise through the House, while it gets filibustered and stalled in the Senate - IOW, Pelosi is actually doing her job sometimes.)

10. Thank you very much for posting that to this thread
You used the words, expertly I might add, that I was grasping for to include in my OP but couldn't do it.

Thanks again. You hit the nail on the head.

He just ended the committe he was chair of. I'm sure he has a couple of velvet covered brass knuckles with their names on them.

5. I have a 100 percent confidence with good leadership there is no problem we can't face
and solve. In twelve more days we'll have that good leader.

6. If only this comes to be true. Maybe the entire campaign and especially post-election actions and
statements have been a mass rope-a-dope.

If so, I will NOT criticize Obama for "lying" to us. I would commend him for really being goal-oriented.

But, for now, I have almost total doubts that liberals will be happy with the results from the new administration. I hope I am wrong.

What an embarrassment.

16. Even McConnell can't resist the bully pulpit.
He'll be able to make noise, yes, but with the stronger Democratic majority, Obama constantly lighting a fire under Reid's ass, and the heavy bully-pulpit pressure, I hope that the Rethugs will have much more difficulty being able to sustain filibusters.

17. McConnell doesn't have anything to lose since he was just re-elected for 6 more years.

He can be as nasty as his base is. Hope is that some of the more "moderate" republicans (maybe two or three?) can help with votes for cloture when needed. Without the IL and MN seats in the near term, we may get slowed down for a few months, I'm thinking Coleman will hold up Franken from being sworn in and the republicans in the US senate will make big trouble around Burris.
Once we get those two seats, things should move better. Reid needs an ass-kicking immediately.

19. No, but a good third of his Senate caucus does.
We only have to peel off two Republicans to neuter a filibuster threat. And not all of them are ultra-conservatives from Deep Jesusland - we've got Snowe, Collins, Specter to lean on.

20. Collins and Snowe maybe. Specter talks moderate but follows the leader. I went through the list;
it is really hard to come up with any more.

13. Yes. The only hold-ups will be due to Reid's lack of leadership. Maybe Obama can work around him.

14. Obama already took Reid to the woodshed yesterday - I think he's already on the problem.
The intense bully-pulpit pressure is one of the things that I believe is intended to deal with Reid problems - it'll choke out Reid's constant stream of whining and excuses. Think of it as a product of the Darth Vader School of Motivational Management. "Perhaps I can find new ways to motivate them..."
