It's also astounding how small Gaza is. Only 139 square miles. A little bit bigger than 2 Washington DC's.

4. Yes, and it makes for problems.
Poverty--have you ever figured out what poverty-level income is for husband, wife, and 4 kids? Now do it for husband, two wives, and 6 kids. Then there was Ghayan, with his four wives and a dozen kids.

Claims of genocide--in 15 years the population's about doubled.

Social stability--when the percentage of kids is that high, you wind up with a lot of people trying to find themselves, including a lot of high-spirited young men.

Employment--even ignoring things like family size, you have to have the economy doubling every 16 years or so just to maintain the status quo.

Political solutions. Not only has the population doubled, but the number of refugees from 1948 that need to be mollified has essentially doubled in less than 20 years.

More could be said, to be sure.
