Salvation Army Captain Says He Was Fired Because Of Engagement
Letter From Organization Says Johnny Harsh Fired For Multiple Reasons

The Oshkosh Salvation Army captain who said he was being kicked out of the church for marrying a nonmember has been fired.

Capt. Johnny Harsh said he expected to be fired after becoming engaged to a woman who was not part of the Salvation Army. He said Thursday he had received a letter telling him his pay will end Feb. 12.

But Bob Thomson, division commander for the Salvation Army in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, said Friday that Harsh was not fired because of his engagement.

"The engagement really played no part in that," Thomson said in a telephone interview from headquarters in Milwaukee. "It would have been an issue if he had gotten married."

I have a lot of respect for the salvation army, but it is slipping.

2. They helped me out at one time and I helped them with troubled kids
They had good programs in my small town that helped many many people.

I can praise and complain at the same time :)

4. I refuse to donate to them for anything - but I dont donate to Churches as a rule
The Salvation Army in Europe is very much a Church - very different than what you see here in the USA.

I hate the Christmas bell ringers and usually tell them that I dont support homophobic organizations when I see them:)
