The Watergate Affair
Sigh, if only we had a news media today who did its job at least as good as this.

1. Don't make me go nostalgic on ya.
But looking back on those troubled times makes me long for them again.
As bad as they were at least we had a media that told us about it and a congress that did something about it.

2. We Do...You're A Part Of It...
In the Watergate days, all we had were three networks and a handful of newspapers...most we never saw, just heard about. Today you have blogs and all types of independent media that didn't exist and are just starting to come into their own. It's allowing people to become their own news gatherers and editors and to bypass the filters of the corporate media in getting information that used to get swept under their rug.

3. Amen! I have long said that the blogs will "make them honest" like the MSM should have done.
I think the blogs even confused Rove and his ilk. Short of shutting us down, they can't control us like they did the MSM. Lie, and someone will find a video or an article showing you are continuing to lie. It is throwing the politicians off balance. Only Obama has figured it out.

I salute the blogs and the independents who are keeping them honest.

4. They Couldn't Spin...
The blogs came about at a critical time. For the first two years, the booosh regime all but owned the corporate media. Judy Miller was the poster girl for "war coverage" and anything Rove wanted out in the press was sure to be echoed all over. Jane Hamsher called it "The Mighty Wurlitzer"...and it either played loudly or rolled over you. Democrats could barely get a word in...and those that tried where ridiculed or shouted down. It was damn efficient and scary to witness.

It was a breath of fresh air to find people like Mediawhores (if anyone remembers Horse) and then Kos, C&L, Atrios and, of course, DU, that offered both alternative, valuable and reliable information as well as providing the community where those of us on the "outside" could gather and organize. It's been an amazing transformation and very energizing as well. The freedom of the internet trumped the money and power of the corporate media. While the blogs continue to grow, the corporate media is oollapsing under their own greed and largess.

We do live in very interesting times.

Cheers...
