Anybody notice that when PE Obama was working the rope line on the whistle stop.....
His (our) secret service guys were EVERYWHERE! Front, back, all around..everywhere.
Their eyes were rapidly scanning the crowd, peering everywhere at once. Studying faces...looking at outstretched hands...looking....looking...ready to instantly re-act.
Thinking: not on MY fucking watch..
I'm in awe of the dedication and training of these heroes who are totally prepared to "take one" if necessary.

:patriot:

1. Absolutely agree. They don't get enough praise IMO, but they do
just consider their work just that. Doing their job. I'm impressed with their dedication.

2. I was one of the ones they watched back in September lol.

When I was at the rally this secret service agent who reminded me of Chuck Norris (shorter hair, trimmed) came out of no where and stood in front of the people on my left, scanned them and then he got to me. I was thinking to myself "omg" because he just stood there scanning me like a laser checking the sides of me and just making sure I was ok. These guys have everything under control. I have trust in them.

Edited to add: the Secret Service is everywhere when Obama is in the vicinity. Even in places where you think they aren't. They are there: plain clothed, in suits, incognito in the crowd ready to kick ass to protect the President by any means.

19. If I was scrutinized like that....
...I think I would have peed myself a little.

and you're right..I'll bet the Secret Service can be disguised to look like TREES or HYDRANTS!

3. He's had record-setting protection
from 'way back during the primaries. You can only imagine the kinds of threats that must come in daily.

He's going to be a target for the rest of his life. I am now only in awe of the Secret Service people, but the courage of Barack and Michelle.

There are so many crazies out there.

9. Barack's courage is remarkable...
If I were him, I'd have bulletproof glass at every speech and I would not go embrace the crowd. But he thoroughly enjoys the intimacy of meeting the crowd and not putting himself in a bubble. It takes a lot of courage to not be paranoid in the situation he's in.

13. Ya know...I think he has a mind-set that he's just going to do what he feels in his heart.
How utterly refreshing to see him reach out to the people. People that are freezing their ass off just to get a glimpse of him or touch his hand.
CowardInChief hides behind protective walls, barriers and fences, only accessible to his frisked pre-screened zombies.

(I'm thinking there IS bullet-proof stuff everywhere)

28. about three quarters of the way through the primary, they said 500 threats
had been received. the amount was only disclosed after the unfortunate RFK remark.

18. And me.
Even though Bush was despised by many millions, and for good reason, I don't think he was ever in all that much danger. Barack Obama's public appearances will be far more risky than Bush's.

There's crazies on the left and right, but the ones on the right are much weirder and far more stupid and dangerous. I'll bet most of those Secret Service guys feel that way too. I'd much rather watch over Bush than Barack.

20. Oh, I would agree....
much easier to look after the CowardInChief.
For one thing, no crowds turned out anyway and two, the people that WERE there were either ordered to do so (troops)or ReThugs hoping their campaign contributions would buy them influence or favor.

(I did see they caught one ugly son-of-a-bitch "crazy" today who was making death threats on-line. Throw away the key...PLEASE)

Physically massive...set chiseled jaws...rock-hard abs....flat-top hair cuts and Ray-Bans.

Our nation owes them much gratitude. :loveya:

edited to add: I heard that there will be no less than 20,000 enforcement personnel of all types in D.C. on Tuesday.

15. Everybody bears watching, including the Secret Service
Remember, it was the Secret Service who made the Dallas police stop weapon searches at an arena event during the primaries. Freaked the cops out.

security people, Bush never faced the public unless people were handpicked.
This is truly wonderful.

17. When I think of the "reality-based community" ... I think of them.
I've watched them with interest during the whole campaign and afterwards ... and it'd be an understatement to say "focused" or "serious." They've got one huge burden ... and deserve enormous respect. Enormous.

see, all the really psycho gun nuts loved Bush ...

Now, the gun fanatics are afraid ... so the Secret Service has to watch out for would-be assassins now ...
