Some DUers had wondered about pets being trapped in the hold of US Air flight
Just wanted to pass along that I read in the NYT times today that the airline has said they do not transport pets.

So, good news, no little doggies or kitties were trapped in the hold!

Just another peice of good news from this story.

((And I don't have a link because I read it in the actual paper and don't have a password to the site.))

4. Here's the link and the quote:

Another question that has arisen concerns the passengers’ luggage, some of which may still be on the plane.

Soon after the crash, police harbor units recovered 15 pieces of carry-on luggage.

What seems certain is that there were no live animals in the hold. “We don’t carry pets in our cargo,” said Valerie Wunder, a spokeswoman for US Airways.

12. That's a weird comment: "We don't carry pets in our cargo"
Where do they carry them? Becasue USAir used to carry pets in cargo. do they no longer transport any pets?

13. From their website...
http://www.usairways.com/awa/content/traveltools/specialneeds/pets.aspx

"The number of pets that may be carried in each cabin is limited. In order for your pet to travel with you, you must make your reservations on flights with cabin pet space available. "

and further down...

Pets in cargo compartment

Our hub cities of Phoenix and Las Vegas have extreme temperatures that regularly exceed 100 degrees. For the safety of your pet, US Airways does not accept any animals in its cargo compartments.

Exception cities

US Airways accepts dogs, domestic cats and birds as checked baggage on nonstop US Airways Shuttle flights in the BOS/DCA/LGA markets only. Connections are not permitted. The customer must travel on the same flight. Customers should advise US Airways when they wish to transport a pet as checked baggage on a US Airways Shuttle flight.

15. yes :(
They were beautiful too, you know it. Birdies with the bad luck  I can't stand how they keep calling it a "bird strike"

I am glad there weren't any animals being moved on the plane.

8. That is very good news...
Had I been on a plane that went down with a beloved pet in the hold, it would be very diffcult to feel "really" as lucky as they were.

9. thanks for that news ...
while worrying about the humans, i was also worried about whether there were animals in the cargo holding area. I hate that larger pets have to be transported that way -- it must be so frightening for them to be surrounded by loud noises and intense vibrations. I wish airlines would allow pets in the cabin, for cases where guardians are able to control them. If their guardians want to pay a ticket for them to occupy the seat next to them, why not?

I really like this little airline:

16. Yes. Animals don't drop bombs on each other or create fake hedge funds.
Animals are altogether better companions and friends than Homo hubris.
