Cynical, final reason to investigate: keep blame for worsening econ focused on Bush failures
I know Obama can't lead the charge for these investigations, but the right wing will do everything they can to blame him for the worsening economic disaster. The only way to remind the 50% non-voting public, who have the memory of one television season, that this isn't Obama's fault is to keep the media focused on major investigations of financial fraudsters and Enron-like insider dealing of Bush administration cronies. We all know that there are larger reasons for this crash than the past eight years (and that some of Clinton's folks contributed to it), but I doubt the media can get their heads around limits to growth, post-colonialism, unfettered capitalism, etc, etc. If the media want juicy stories, get the judiciary committees to keep feeding them the most lurid ones they can find.

I hope and pray that the leading Dems don't cave on this. We need a special prosecutor NOW.

2. And why can't the TARP abuses be investigated as a purely Paulson/Bush scandal?
Right now they're just being left out there so that you're average uninformed libertarian type is saying, hell yes, a lot of Repubs opposed this, so they must be right.

But Paulson blocked review of the funds' disbursement.

Can't a special investigator be appointed already to look at their fraud and pin it on Bush, or does it hit too close to home for the DLC?

I wish they'd rename the new disbursement of TARP funds as something else to clearly differentiate it from the FINAL ROBBERY by the Bush administration.

3. That's why I think he should push ahead as quietly as possible.
We need to ground the GOP and the Bushes into the dust.
