KARL ROVE Subpoenaed!!!! Breaking news live on CNN-
Edited on Mon Jan-26-09 06:48 PM by jazzjunkysue
Interrupted Obama's speech to announce it.

Link here! And the timing is great: The public's eye's are open, the media is finally covering news and americans are looking to blame someone for their losses. I smell blood in the water.

Conyers again subpoenas Rove
Posted: 06:00 PM ET

(CNN) – House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers issued a new subpoena for former Bush adviser Karl Rove Monday.

Rove was subpoenaed by Conyers last year, but refused to testify before Congress, pointing to executive privilege although he was no longer part of the administration.

“I have said many times that I will carry this investigation forward to its conclusion, whether in Congress or in court, and today’s action is an important step along the way,” Conyers said in a statement released Monday. “Change has come to Washington, and I hope Karl Rove is ready for it. After two years of stonewalling, it’s time for him to talk.”

The Michigan congressman is again looking to question Rove over whether the prosecution of former Democratic Gov. Don Siegelman, and the firing of the U.S. attorneys, were politically motivated. Rove has denied playing a part in either affair.

16. It sounds to me like Conyers is acting in concert now with Obama White House
and that he's willing now to enforce the subpoena and haul Rove's sorry ass into the Hearing Room
by force if need be.

Here's another story on it from Raw Story, saying Conyers "invoked Obamaa" in issuing subpoena, which
i take to mean he has Obama's blessing. Checkmate Mr. Rove.

38. Nobody can blame you
For wanting Holder to be confirmed. I suspect he will be. I think the GOP is just holding up the confirmation so that their constituents won't think they're just rolling over and playing dead. That and maybe they are testing to see what will happen when they don't go along with the majority now. After 8 years of a completely partisan White House and Senate, the GOP are probably not used to the idea that they're not going to automatically get their way.

49. Why would Conyers embarrass himrself if he did't intend to see it thru?
Edited on Mon Jan-26-09 09:24 PM by joeunderdog
Conyers must have backing, or this would be a senseless pursuit, one that would reflect poorly on the President's young term. They would not do this if they were not prepared to prosecute Rove for defying Congress, ignoring a subpoena or lying to investigators. They'd simply say "We're looking forward."

Prior to Rove, Congress prosecuted Libby and Martha Stewart not for their alleged crimes, but for lying to Congress and/or prosecuters. If they get Fuckhead Rove on the record for long enough, he will have to lie. This was precisely the tactic that the Repugs got Clinton on--they actually had no idea of the content of his misdeed, but it didn't matter. They were merely determined to get him to lie under oath. The same will happen here with the Dems on Rove, given that there is no one to stop them. The Democrats have been waiting--and carefully planning--for this moment, and didn't even wait til Obama unpacked in the White House.

If the Dems get one guy locked up, I hope it's Rove. They're definitely goin' after him!!!

50. I hope you're right
I would love nothing more than to see Rove put in the gray bar hotel where he belongs. But I wonder about Onbama's commitment in investigating the past administration's crimes when he said:

"On the other hand, I also have a belief that we need to look forward as opposed to looking backwards. My orientation is going to be moving forward."

His determination to bring unity to the parties may compromise his willingness to fully investigate and prosecute the GOP and bring those to Justice who would implicate others that he is directly working with on a daily basis now. Karl Rove has grown accustomed to being the "Teflon Don" of the GOP where everyone protects him to the point of being his fall guy when needed.

Assuming Congress actually has the nads to file contempt-of-Congress charges that actually will be enforced.

Holder will actually prosecute instead of sitting on the charges.

35. I'm hopeful this time. As time goes by, I'm seeing brilliance in how the Democrats are setting the
thugs up for a fall in a way that will not only please those of us who have seen the truth all along, but will justify their actions against the previous administration.

We prefer to look forward, but we're going to examine the facts & let them take us where it may, is what we've been hearing. I believe they already know where it's going to lead them. :)

One of the first things Obama took care of in his first week in office is to rescend Bush's ridiculously-unfair FOIA orders. Obama's action prevents justification for any stonewalling due to the infamous "classifed information" excuse.
