Giuliani: Cutting Wall St. bonuses means less spending in restaurants, stores

Giuliani: Corporate plums help keep NYC afloat

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Bonuses for Wall Street fat cats are easy political fodder in uncertain economic times, but former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Friday cutting corporate bonuses means slashing jobs in the Big Apple.

"If you somehow take that bonus out of the economy, it really will create unemployment," he said on CNN's "American Morning." "It means less spending in restaurants, less spending in department stores, so everything has an impact."

President Obama admonished corporate America on Thursday after the New York comptroller reported that Wall Street bankers received $18.4 billion in bonuses in 2008.

"This is the height of irresponsibility. It is shameful," the president said. Video Watch Obama blast Wall Street »

These are the same institutions "teetering on collapse" and asking taxpayers to bail them out while taxpayers are dealing with their own tumultuous finances, he said.

15. Trust me, they can eat a whole lot... $500 for 3 people

My husband and I got snookered by an acquaintance. He lost his job and we felt sorry for him so we decided to take him out to eat. His choice. He took us to the places he went to as a Sales Rep selling computer equipment to Wall Street. Apparently, the pigs eat some mighty fine pickings at the trough. It was all a la carte. And we had had a couple drinks before going out to dinner. He was ordering, I was feeling no pain and my husband wasn't watching the bill (it was going on hubby's card).

Before we got on the train, my husband told me what the bill was. I have never sobered up so fast in my life. There is nothing like that ice cold feeling of "WTF happened here". What a way to ruin a good buzz. I don't drink much so it doesn't take much to make me feel good and same for hubby.

We don't spend that kind of money on entertainment! Never! Not for my wedding, anniversary or New Years. Well, at least the wait staff was happy (hubby tips properly).

Well, when he finds a job...paybacks are hell. We are planning on doing our part to inflate the economy. Apparently, there are even more expensive places to go out -- ie $500/plate.

I can't believe he did that to us. You know, normally, the unemployed pick a moderate place to go out and eat when it's someone else's treat.

Please Note: I am not promoting Giuliani's stimulus package... just telling an anecdote about greed.

3. Really now, Rudy. Just how many bonus-ees are there, that there would
be such an impact? And do they blow ALL their millions on department stores and restaurants, or do they horde it or reinvest it? Absurd.

14. Isn't it time for him to start talking about 9/11 again?
I'm sure he hasn't mentioned it for at least thirty seconds now.

In the meantime, Rudy, that money would go a LOT further if it were back in the pockets of the taxpayers, who are trying to do stuff like keep a roof over their heads and food in their kids' mouths.

Assclown.

20. A large amount of money concentrated in a few people
Does not cause much change in the local economy. They simply can't spend this amount of money that quickly on such low ticket items. Even if they eat really well and dress really nice.

CEOs still get bonuses, and Giuliani is happy.

24. And arresting cocaine dealers hurts the economy
Look what it does to cigarette boat sales when you go and arrest high-level drug dealers. It hurts the economy. If the GOP got what they wanted, Roe v Wade would be overturned, and we wouldn't have all of that abortion money stimulating the economy. If law enforcement succeeds in cutting down on murder rates, there go some homicide detectives' jobs, also hurting the economy.

Rudy, you worthless fuckwit, maybe the next time someone wants your opinion, it should be beaten out of you. Until then, STFU.
