I'm Sorry, But Daschle Is Out Of Touch And Obama Isn't Getting It
Tom Daschle "forgot" to pay taxes on http://kdka.com/national/Tom.Daschle.tax.2.923066.html?detectflash=false">$88,333 of consulting income he earned in 2007. Meanwhile, the http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/releases/archives/income_wealth/012528.html">median household income in the United States in 2007 was $50,233. And that's median, not average, meaning half of US households made more, and half made less. In other words, Daschle "forgot" about a portion of his income that is 75.84% higher than the median household income for 2007. The income from his part time job alone, that he "forgot" about, would have him http://pubdb3.census.gov/macro/032007/hhinc/new06_000.htm">earning more than nearly 80% of all US households. I can tell you for a fact that if I earned $88,333 I would not forget I had done so, and I'm fairly certain that I'd be on the lookout for the 1099 towards the end of January in the following year. Flame away if you must, but I say Daschle needs to withdraw.

Paging Dr. Dean.

2. I will not forgive Daschle for the way he bowed down to Bush
and this just makes it worse, IMO.

Daschle should not get the job.

3. I haven't followed all the twists and turns, but didn't he hide this from Obama
even after he realized it would be a problem? That really concerns me - what else did Obama not consider about him? What will TD's attitude be toward openness for the health care reform process? Not encouraging.

4. Daschle was a terrible pick.....but Obama OWES HIM...what does he do?
It would be great if he was Political enough to send his "spokespeople" out there to start to play us all the crap Daschle & Wife have been involved with...but NO...he's laying low and it's only the Repugs going against Daschle.

OBAMA WANTS DASCHLE...but he doesn't yet realize how TAINTED Daschle is on both the RIGHT AND LEFT!

I wish someone could get to Obama and TELL HIM HOW BAD THIS IS! DASCHLE IS BAD...GET RIG OF HIM! And, Presidents can do this without their hands getting dirty by sending out "OP's" who can do this for him!

5. When you owe someone you make them the ambassador...
To somewhere nice. Maybe Daschle can be the US Ambassador to Tahiti, or Belize, or the Bahamas. But a cabinet level position?

25. I think Obama's a "very nice guy" caught in a VICE with Daschle...because
Edited on Tue Feb-03-09 12:08 AM by KoKo
Daschle giving his early support and the lackies he gave Obama. Just like Obama was caught in a VICE with the CLINTONS...and to some extent having to pick Joe Biden.

I just hope that he can be "coaxed out" to get on his own and not take these "picks" who will drag him down. We've gotta Keep OBAMA STRONG...to keep "Us out HERE, Strong."

That's what I'm saying...for whatever...

11. My goodwill towards the new administration is not a bottomless pit
I'm afraid Obama is going to use up too much political capital and goodwill trying to get his people appointed to their posts, and when it comes time to do right by the American people his honeymoon will have ended.

16. I agree with you there
My benefit of the doubt was towards Obama getting it and not caring, not for Daschle. I'm giving Obama the benefit of the doubt in the sense that perhaps he's had too much on his plate to accurately judge what a slap in the face this pick is turning out to be.

23. Tough to say...
I don't have a certain number, like "3 more bad nominations and I'm done!" I'm not sure when it will be too much, but it's like that old definition of pornography..."I'll know it when I see it".

27. I suppose it will be...
Dependent upon the stimulus package that is ultimately passed. That legislation has such enormous implications that it will set the tone for his entire presidency. If we, the American people, get shafted in the stimulus package, I will be done.

35. We can't bail out corrupt capitalism again and expect real change . . .
we have to re-regulate capitalism to within an inch of its life --

unregulated capitalism is merely organized crime ---

We have to move on to economic democracy -- democratic socialism.

Rather than bail outs we should be nationalizing the corporations which

are in financial trouble.

10. If we want health care, something the GOP does not want , we need legislative know-how, experience
with Clinton effort, and have ideas that will work. We can't get universal healthcare from where we are, because of the industry and plans out there, as well difficulty getting any votes from the GOP.

Pragmatism on health care more important than tax problems, an amount claimed or car service that was more than he actually used it.

21. It is not a blip
How much money do you make in a year? Are you in the 20th percentile of households in the nation? Are you so out of touch with average Americans that you can "forget" about making 75% more than the median household income? Sorry, I'm not buying that he forgot about nearly $90,000 in income...and that's not even counting the $250,000 car service (another $83,000 a year) or overzealous charitable contributions he claimed.
