Midwest is a target of the Gop makeover.
Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 05:53 AM by midnight
"People understand the party is not a viable party with the current hole in the Midwest we have. Reince and others understand that," said Bob Wood, a party insider and D.C. lobbyist who served as a top aide to former Governor and Health Secretary Tommy Thompson.

What that means in practice is not yet clear. Priebus says Republicans have to be a party of ideas, not just opposition. But any big rebound in 2010 will depend on Democratic failures. Pointing to the budget shortfall in Wisconsin, Priebus said Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle is "much more vulnerable than people realize."

What this article does not point out, is that Tommy Thompson created that vulnerable situation for the good people of Wisconsin. He did so by using the Rep. lead legislature to create a tax giveaway as a ploy for votes. He emptied the rainy day slush fund in Wisconsin in order to garner votes. Not very fiscally responsible. This seems to be a pattern when the Rep. know they will not be re-elected. Destroy the budget. Then limp back and say the opponent is fiscally weak..... Will we buy this story line again. I hope not, but just in-case we get distracted with their shock and awe, stay alert for this argument in the midwest.

1. I'm not sure they are smart enough
The problem with the GOP is they think the majority of people beleive in their principles. How wrong can you be, and what does it take to make them realize that people expect results? They had eight years and haven't done a single thing except beat their chest and spend our money. Eight years on, and America is broke, we haven't seen the republicans do anything except

-screw the christian right
-spend more than any administration in history
-start two wars they couldn't finish
-refuse to capture Bin Laden
-violate our civil liberties
-lose control of both houses of congress and the executive
-lose several congressmen to scandal
-lose the respect of the world
-become nothing more than obstructionists
-lose the respect of the enlisted men and women
-double the national debt
-drive their prez to the lowest ratings in history

If they can do this by spending more than any administration in history, just imagine what they could do if they had spent twice as much! They may actually have made the U.S. a third world country (if they haven't already).

With all that spending they could have-

-eliminated hunger in America
-gave Universal healthcare to every American
-rebuilt America's infrastructure
-made America the respected super-power they desired

But Nooooooo! They just totally screwed everything up while amassing monumental debt! I'm not sure they could have screwed things up any more. How friggin stoopid can you be?

repeated, because they have created a situation that will create the ills it was intended to into the next year. Then they will point at the Dems. not being able to clean up their mess in under a year as a weakness.
