It's pretty much the same thing, except an IM is usually done as a 1 on 1 chat, where the twitter crap is done with a lot of people at the same time.

Twitter is basically a chat room in the form of a message board.

9. Isn't it also limited in the length of the post
or 'tweet' or whatever they call an entry? The only time I ever looked at it was a Mumbai twitter page after the attacks there. Very odd format.
