Rush Limbaugh does not have broad appeal. Yes, he stirs up the wingnut base, but that's the extent of his influence. He turns off everyone else with his bombast and mean spirited cant. No one better represents the selfishness and ugliness of the far right. And now he's not only going to be perceived as representing the wingnut right of the conservative movement, he'll be perceived as the face of the republican party.

They can't win with El-Fucko being seen as t he face of republicanism.

8. They Swear...He's Only An "Entertainer"

Boy do wingnuts have thin skins! I keep hearing from them that Rushbo is only an "entertainer"...ya know, don't take what he says seriously. When Rushbo picks on women or blacks or the handicapped...he's only kidding. When he calls for this country to fail and to create "chaos" with the political process, that's just for laughs. That Rushbo...he's such a kidder.

Rushbo cost the GOOP in 2006 and 2008 and looks like they're not wasting time on 2010...he's already out there as the poster boy for all their intolerance, dysfunction and corruption.

Overall, the GOOP bench is thinner than thin. If he's the defacto leader, they truly have no clue. That works for me!!!!

9. one part i disagree with- he's point man for the 1000 station strong talk radio

monopoly that forms the biggest soapbox in the country and together that coordinated uncontested repetition has allowed them to feed GOP talking points and one liners to the rest of the media very effectively

the monopoly is still the single most effective propaganda machine and political enforcer and intimidator in the country- especially for myth making, framing, deciding what molehills get turned into mountains, and for keeping GOP 'moderates' in line for filibusters.

finally he's getting the attention he/the monopoly deserves but the monopoly will still be very effective in determining the flavor of american media , especially since its real goals are those of the interests that subsidize it and own most of the media

until the monopoly is broken up or there is some new kind of fairness doctrine put in it will still play the dominant role in obstructing progress and extracting compromises we don't have time for anymore.

12. we wouldn't be in this mess without the talk radio monopoly to do

the groundwork for the GOP the whole way. if not for the radio swiftboating of gore and kerry, stupidly and completely ignored by the left, we wouldn't have had bush.

this time americans finally had enough and obama is definitely unique. and if not for the talk radio base finally rallying around mccain, because limbaugh finally got behind him after they gave him palin to rationalize his support, the lead in the senate would have been filibuster proof.

the talk radio monopoly is still a knife in democracy's back and much of the left still ignores it.

that Limbaugh has a conservative listener-ship of 20mil but people that track media format are known that most of them are comprised of the really goofy RW/nut-wing/Joe The Skinhead fringe, people that are checking in as opposition researchers or media compliance auditors (which I suspect a %-tile number to be going up), people that also enjoy driving slowly past burning buildings with people thought still in them, car & train wrecks, etc, so that of the 'true conservative thinkers' (yes I know an oxy-cotton-mouthed moran) or people somehow slipped through those cracks the 20mil listeners is reduced down like in a rendering house into a truck load of swine based bar soap so yeah...
