This is bizarre. Temp is 33 degrees. It is snowing heavily, but not yet sticking. And now I hear thunder. (This is in Atlanta)

What the deuce?

19. I know, when the fuck did this start happening?
Edited on Sun Mar-01-09 12:47 PM by originalpckelly
I remember the first time I heard it a year or two ago, and it freaked me the fuck out. I can't recall it ever happening once when I was a kid, but then again, I may not have paid attention to it.

23. Other DUers have said they remember hearing when they were younger...
I suspect that just as the ranges of temperature have steadily been changing in different latitudes, this too is a change due to that. Hardiness zones have been changing dramatically since the '90s. A sign of climate change perhaps?

27. The Age of Kali Yug
Most Hindus today believe that Kali Yug is an evil age. The word "Kali" has a dual meaning... on one hand Kali depicts a beautiful bud and a fragrant rose. On the other hand in later stages of it's life cycle it depicts a flower which has died, decayed and dried up. The same is true of the life cycles of religion. In the beginning, religion is like a beautiful bud and a fragrant rose because whenever one of God's Prophets or Manifestations appear on Earth... He most renews Religion, and a new era of Righteousness in the world of Humanity is born. Similarly, like the beautiful rose which eventually dies, decays and dries up... religion's regenerating force and life giving vitality is obscured.

Hence, there are clear-cut prophecies in the Hindu Scriptures about the bad events to come and evil occurrence to happen in the end-times of Kali Yug. This is the example provided to us by Shri Krishna's religion. Krishna originally did establish a beautifully budding civilization and a spiritualized nobility which flourished like the opening of a "Kali" petal... of a fragrant rose

32. why would you think it's odd? Do not fear, educate yourself
Thunder is the rumbling or crack of sound that can usually be heard from the sky during a storm. Thunder is caused because lightning heats up the air, to about 30 000ºC, causing it to expand quickly. The rumbling occurs as the sound passes through atmospheric layers at different temperatures.

33. Never heard this my entire life until a few years ago. You can't believe your ears the first time.
It is a reality altering experience to those of us who've lived through so many winters we thought we knew it ALL about snow and winter.

Whoever saw this many ICE STORMS as a kid, anyway? That's another item to ponder.

34. It's freaky when it happens, but not uncommon. We just had it
on Thursday - thunder, lightning and heavy snow with flakes the size of quarters. Like someone upthread said - it seems to happen most during the transition times between fall/winter and winter/spring when the weather isn't really sure which side of the fence to be on, lol.

They used to say, "if you don't like the weather in Colorado, wait a few hours." With global warming effects, I'm not sure the adage shouldn't be..."wait a few minutes."
