I caught a few minutes of the evening show on Pittsburgh's far-Right radio station
Well, one of them, anyway. It's relatively high on the dial, but I don't want to give the call letters or the frequency, lest I accidentally steer listeners toward that foul station.

Anyway, I heard a blurb of an obviously college-aged kid reading a summary of Obama's plan to go after corporations and wealthy individuals who weasel out of paying taxes. For a second I thought that, against all odds, the station had let a Center or Left-leaning voice be heard. But then the signal melded directly into some weird Nazi-esque "We Are In Amerika" dirge I'd never heard before. After that the commentator himself came on with a lengthy diatribe about the "gang mentality" ruining this country. Specifically, he decried those men who robbed us of our tax money with no accountability and no disclosure. He also kept chanting "It can't happen here? It can't happen here, you say? It can't happen here?" and on and on.

But then he declared that we are living in dictatorial times, friends. "Yes, we are living under the Obama dictatorship." Thereupon he praised himself as a "not nice man," and when "nice men" lack the nerve to stand up for what's right, it's up to the "men who are a little rough around the edges" to do the heavy lifting.

Is this guy a sick asshole, or what? "Obama dictatorship?" "It can't happen here?" Where the hell has he been living for the past eight years?

For pity's sake, if Obama accomplishes nothing else except the scrapping of the multibillion dollar missile defense cash cow, I'll consider my vote to have been well cast.

3. It's amazing that they don't see the last 8 years as a Dictatorship.
They don't have to worry about being picked up in the middle of the night and disappeared with this administration.

7. Remember how batshit they were under Clinton?
Fearing black helicopters and concentration camps and UN troops on US soil, thinking they were going to be at the epicenter of the next Ruby Ridge or Waco?

8. Yes indeed!
And, of course, their current insanity has them believing that Obama will personally seize all of their guns & ammo.

In the weeks prior to the election, a guy down the street from me actually expressed his fear that, if Obama were to be elected, then black men would steal all of the white women. Not Obama, he insisted, but other black men.

:wft: Seriously! :wtf:

Where do they even come up with this shit?

The most insane thing I ever heard a left-leaning commentator say about Bush was that we should watch out for Skull-n-Bones connections. But the airwaves are daily filled with the most far-right bigoted and xenophobic madness.

10. Hey Orrex! Are there any "progressive" radio stations anywhere in central or western PA?
Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 09:16 AM by madinmaryland
I am heading out to Western PA this weekend (New Castle) and in the past haven't been able to get much of anything other than reich wing crap and sports. I either take the turnpike or rt.422.

11. Not a one
88.5 out of Ohio and 90.5 out of Pittsburgh both run NPR during regular hours, but there's nothing like a progressive station available over the regular airwaves.

There's a station out of West Virginia somewhere in that same dial vicinity, and it offers NPR and a several other features, like environmental and/or science programming, but these are likewise available only during certain times of the day. I can't remember the exact frequency because I haven't been able to get that station in a long time.

You might also try for 88.3, which is the Carnegie-Mellon station, and it actually runs a good deal of progressive stuff at certain hours. The signal doesn't make it much farther north than Cranberry, though, so it's hit or miss.

9. Obama dictatorship= passage of ANYTHING they disagree with
Where as Bush was a great leader because he passed all the nonsense they wanted. Amazing how this works isn't it? The RW are like spoiled rotten children who cry foul the moment they are denied anything.

12. I know the channel
It's the local fox news propoganda channel. Hannity, Beck, Savage et al. All the blowhards. We have it programmed in the car as my wife likes to listen to it and get angry.

14. That's the station!
I don't listen often, because I listened to several hours straight back in 2004, and they tend simply to rehash the same diatribes over and over again. It's about the only kind of recycling favored by Repubs.

13. History doesn't repeat, but it rhymes.
These vitriol these assholes spew reminds of the floods of verbal abuse thrown at the Roman populist reformer Tiberius Gracchus, who was assassinated by reactionaries claiming that Gracchus was trying to make himself a tyrant because he tried to enact land reform. The assassination set off the chain of events that led to the fall of the republic.
