Roland Burris appears to be toast.
There's the issue of his allegedly lying about raising cash for Blogajevich.

There's also the calls for his resignation from Quinn and Durbin.

The likelihood of a primary challenge from other Democrats is extremely high.

1. He was toast from the beginning
Rod's appointment of Burris was a "gotcha" moment. The Democrats will be lucky to hold this seat regardless of who wins the primary.

2. Yes. Burris was pretty much toast from the start, although I think
we still hold the seat. The Pukes got nothin' in Illinois, really.

They've come onto barren soil in Illinois politics. If the Demcroats can rally behind the winner of this primary, I think our chances are pretty good to hold the seat.

Illinois and New York are going to be interesting to watch these next couple of years.

3. He'll Hang In Until He's Indicted
He not only raised cash for Blago, but got other favors as well...and failed to dislose them. The clock is ticking until ne's nailed on these conflicts. That said, he sold out and destroyed any good will he had, even with black voters. Quinn and others hope he resigns but they have little wiggle room and keeping it on the front page gives the GOOP lots of room to make noise. Right now the state's facing a major budget crisis and Burris is a needless distraction.

He will definitely be challenged next year. Jan Schakowsky and Alexi Gianoulis have already said they're in and others will surely follow. Right now Burris is a reliable Democratic vote...another reason there's no real push for him to go.

4. Agree. Burris will likely try to stay put and
agree also that he'll have challengers.

I'm a Schakowsky fan myself.

6. Toaster miracle? Not sure what that involves, although it sounds like
a possible gig for the Sham-Wow guy.

11. Interesting batch of politicians.
It could be Roland has a trick or two up his sleeve I'm unaware of, but his long-standing record on state-wide ballots in Illinois isn't that strong to begin with.

I think he's going to try to remain a Senator but that his calendar days in that job are probably numbered.
