Listening to Mitch McConnell on This Week this morning....

It makes me think that the GOP has nothing viable to offer. No policy solutions at all. Not even a valid counterpoint. I listened to him talk for several minutes and didn't learn a thing. I don't know what kind of governing philosophy Republicans have beyond talking points and failed ideas. All you get is they are trying to implement a political strategy with the hopes of getting some seats in the next election. That's it. All politics, all public relations and no good policy alternatives.

They are so far off on policy they say things that are almost insane. The best example is probably the idea for a spending freeze.

How did their whole party go so wrong?

The gulf between both parties on policy it's so huge, I have to wonder if Republicans haven't collectively radicalized themselves over the decades that they are beyond hope.

2. Thanks. I was thinking about going there, not knowing who
the guest was. I'll pass. And you're right. The GOP is flailing around in the dark with no new ideas other than to 'grow the party' in 2010. 'Cept, no one has a reason to believe them, because they're not giving anyone a good reason to vote for them.

5. It was McConnell and Larry Summers
Poorly done too. The panel has some business mag guy, George Will, Robert Kuttner and Frank Rich. Some of that is worth checking out, they waste lots of time on whether Obama is unfocused and doing too much.

11. Unfocused? That's this week's meme.
I loved this:

Can you imagine how unfocused McCain would have been? Then 'unfocused' might be a legitimate argument but despite their whining, I'm not seeing it now. They got nuthin'! So they whine.

12. oh I shudder to think of what McCain , top economic advisor Phil Gramm
and Secretary of Treasury John Thain would be planning for the economy right now. Yikes.

All of a sudden, they all believe the president can somehow do too much. Hey, I'm glad the guy is working so hard, good for him.

6. They don't. They've been pasted the last 2 national elections and the media insists on ...
treating them as if people wanted to hear from them and as if they are equal partners in governing. They are not.

They're in a 'time out' chair for two years.

8. They have the same ideas, only they can't say them...
Edited on Sun Mar-15-09 09:59 AM by liberalmuse
because those ideas are responsible for getting us into this mess: massive de-regulation of the markets, 100% trust in private industry to run things and regulate themselves, grow the economy by implementing unneccessary wars so we have a large military industrial complex, and large tax cuts for the rich. That's basically it as far as economics.

I should add that they care not whether the ideas above work or not. They are a means to the end of getting fat donors so they can maintain power and rake in the money for themselves. That's it. It's so simple and incredibly selfish that the average decent human being cannot comprehend that this is all they are aiming for.
