I hope it keeps climbing like this. My Roth IRA's are down more than $50,000 since last July---not to mention my parent's retirement funds.

2. Average bear market length is 14 months
This is obviously not an average one, but some analysts put the start at 18 months ago.

Once we get a handle on the mortgage crisis and people get used to the idea of deflation things will improve - but it might take years.

4. there is a whole other class of mortgages that will crash. Alt-A mortgates will be at least another
half TRILLION of lost money.

5. Only lost on paper.
When mortage companies realize that they can either refi homeowners or end up with an unsellable, trashed hulk, they tend to opt for the former.

Deflation affects everyone, and throwing homeowners out on the street in a comatose market is suicidal.

3. And young people want it to drop and stay down for another year to keep buying
stocks at low prices for their retirment. All depends on where you are in relation to retirement as to what you want stocks to do and when you use the :) or the :(.
