Here's an idea for Geithner.....
all the conversation about merit pay for teachers on this board for the last week or so.....using the same analogy....if you didn't meet your goals you don't get the money.....pull all the contracts for these executives.....see if there is a clause that says they get the money regardless of their personal performance on the job........otherwise zippo/nada

1. All of the spin AIG is putting on now, trying to call these "retention" bonuses.
Edited on Mon Mar-16-09 12:47 PM by Joe Fields
They tell us that they don't want to lose their top execs, so this is a way to retain them. They say the contracts cannot be broken. What about union contracts? Why should those be re-negotiated, if AIG exec. contracts cannot be?

I say pull the contracts, tell the execs to go piss up a rope. Call their bluff. If they leave, then so be it, but I doubt they will. Where are they going to go? No place. Let's tell them that, not only are they NOT getting their bonuses, but investigations are coming, and if they are smart they had better lawyer up.

2. The first question would be...WHY would you want to retain the guys who got you into this mess?
How much worse could someone else do...?

3. Nice idea. And if the bonuses can't be blocked
levy a 100% tax on them.
