26. I disagree. This country was ready for a right shift,
and if he was not around, someone else, potentially much worse, would have filled that spot.

We are now, finally, swinging away from neocon agenda, and may even fix problems of our own making. Like Every Single Decision Made By Bush.

Traitor.

Had Clinton done any of these things, he would have been tried for treason. But Reagan somehow elevated these actions to "hero" and extended the hero moniker to his henchmen... Ollie North should have been jailed, but no, he's a hero... :puke:

41. a competent actor
who understood the importance of a good script, a good director, good props and make-up people, and everything else that goes into creating a believable illusion. While he was never a big star, back in the studio days even the minor players needed some talent, and they were trained and coached to do what was expected. I don't think he was a dunce: I think he was a craftsman who perfected making whatever he said and did appear true, whether he believed it or not.

I hope I don't come across as defending him: I think he was one of the worst things that has happened to this country. If it weren't for Reagan, we wouldn't have had George W. Bush and that's condemnation enough.

46. Racist SC&MB@G & Unionbusting SH@THE@D
Edited on Mon Mar-16-09 03:25 PM by Earth Bound Misfit
He was elbow deep in the same old race-baiting Southern strategy of Goldwater and Nixon. He was opposed to the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964. As president he tried to weaken the Voting Rights Act of 1965. He opposed a national holiday for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He tried to get rid of the federal ban on tax exemptions for private schools that practiced racial discrimination. In 1988, he vetoed a bill to expand the reach of federal civil rights legislation.

He vetoed the imposition of sanctions on the apartheid regime in South Africa, which Congress overrode.

Reagan’s use of code words like “states’ rights” in place of blatantly bigoted rhetoric was crucial to the success of the G.O.P.’s Southern strategy.

He can't be DEAD ENOUGH for me.

He was another empty shell, propped up by a cabal of men that later gave us Chucklenuts Bush and his gang. Reagan was nothing more than a front, a fairy tale, a myth, a soulless bastard created in the backrooms of the GOP headquarters who should have his name stricken from all monuments, airports and our collective memories. Reagan was the absolute perfect example of what the Republican party was and continues to be today.

Other than that, I guess he was okay.
