I could not stop crying throughout the movie. Were Vietnam soldiers escorted home in this manner? I apologize for not using the correct terminology if they were a marine...

Kevin Bacon has my respect......

14. It was the best HBO movie in over a decade
It was 95% accurate (Strobls own words) there was one thing changed simply to move the story along but in the end wasnt important at all. The movie was based on an online account by Strobl (who helped write the script) that was posted on the Marine Corps Times website and caught on as a story of the war. If you have not seen it you must, Bacon and the Director Ross Katz, just loved the story and made it happen. And with a predominantly unknown cast it really works.

6. I saw it too, incredibly moving.

And I also wondered if the care that they took and how people reacted was accurate. I even thought that the name must have been invented to accommodate the catchy title. But then I saw the end and it was based on a true story. That was a "wow" moment. Chance was a an actual Marine who was killed in Iraq and this was his story. Then I believed it was accurate. ;(

on edit: accuracy

15. Thanks, but I did it anyway.
I spent a lot of years as an editor and a proofreader and I can't abide inaccuracy. And I did want to give this brave Marine the respect he deserves. And you.

When did you serve? I'm currently working on the campaign to elect the Congressman here in NY who will fill Senator Gillibrand's seat. Of the countless calls I've made, one that stuck with me was my conversation with a Vietnam vet, said he's spent his life working for veterans' issues and wanted to know where my candidate stood. I told him that Scott Murphy has been endorsed by veterans' groups and is particularly concerned about improving their health care. The other guy is a Republican... ;)

20. Yikes! Those were tough years, remember them well...
I kept a post-it note on my computer terminal at work that said "Iraq," since we had been told that Iran, remembering the hostage crisis, was the greater worry...x(

You're well represented. Fingers crossed that we win next Tuesday. It's currently a dead heat, more's the pity... x(

Thank you.:hi:

19. Chesty... of course... but don't forget Gen. Smedley Butler...
the one who said that war is a "racket". Two Medals of Honor, and he blistered the US policies that made him the enforcer for the US "Big Money Boys."

When I watched "Taking Chance", - thru my tears - I was struck by how well he was cared for after his death. Too bad the Corps (US, actually) sent him to that fucking meatgrinder in the first place. Chance would have been better taken care of if he had died an old man with his family around him.

We gotta stop making so damn many veterans in this country!
