Death squad leader 'was top CIA agent'

Death squad leader 'was top CIA agent' 23 Mar 2009 The late President Milosevic's secret police chief and organiser of Serb death squads during the genocidal ethnic cleansing of disintegrating Yugoslavia was the United States' top CIA agent in Belgrade, according to the independent Belgrade Radio B92.

The claim that from 1992 until the end of the decade, Jovica Stanisic, head of Serbia's murderous DB Secret Police, was regularly informing his CIA handlers of the thinking in Milosevic's inner circle has shocked the region.

Stanisic is said to have loyally served his two masters for eight years. He is facing war crimes charges at the International Criminal Court at The Hague.

In the terrifying years of Yugoslavia's internecine wars, he acted as the willing "muscle" behind Milosevic's genocidal campaigns in Croatia, Kosovo and Bosnia, including Sebrenica.

2. I wouldn't be surprised if he was an asset, but I would be surprised if he was an agent.

The closer you get to good information about bad people, the more you have to befriend bad people.

12. He was used by CIA to destroy Yugoslavia
"The closer you get to good information about bad people, the more you have to befriend bad people."

Like the CIA are not bad people, huh.

Naturally, the CIA and their old agent are trying to damage-control the story by saying they were a moderating influence on Milosevic.

Much more likely just the opposite was going on, which of course is the effect we all saw from the outside.

The CIA used the info Stanisic gave them about the top Serb leadership to stir things up between the Serbs and the other Yugoslavs, provoking Serbia into more violence, into civil war and to bringing about its downfall.

Divide and conquer. Happens every time.

As for Stanisic, granted it's quite possible that he was used and didn't see this whole picture, made up of covert assets and ops in different quarters. That's how puppet masters work.

3. Not a surprise in the least.. There is a direct link of what transpired in that
region with the collapse of the soviet union and the CIA using the Taliban to defeat the Soviets in Afghanistan. The CIA is the front men for most wars. if there is no war, what would we possibly spend all of our money on? Its time to relieve ourselves of these institutions. They go against the very ideals of our constitution and democracy.

13. CIA runs all the death squads
Check out the recent assassinations in Mexico.
Carried out by a group of "Rogue Police" called the Zetas.
They were trained at the SOA... imagine that. Rogues from day 1.
And strange, they assassinate progressive reform candidates, how odd.
And they never get arrested, either, why is that...

18. I think death squads are a unique signature of the CIA.
AFAICT, death squads only occur where the CIA is operating. I think it's very reminiscent of the SS in occupied Europe.

There may be two distinct types of human conflict, throughout history, where genocide occurs. There is the Rwanda type of violence which always seems to take place in broad daylight, and there are these nighttime raids where people are disappeared. It is sort of a CIA-sponsored specialty to terrorize a population.

11. I'm kind of curious what Chris Deliso's take on this story is...
... He's always been good to help try and uncover some of the stuff with weapons trading, etc. and folks like Sibel Edmonds' involvement in it, especially through the Balkans.

19. Has there ever been a death sqad that wasn't CIA sponsored?
Seriously. I don't think death squads are a "natural" phenomonon. Don't most genocides take place in broad daylight.
