No charges, but police can keep the cash
Link

<snip>

In the Jeep’s back seat, police found more than $26,000 in cash wrapped in a stocking cap.

Though officers held the two men for a short time in squad cars, they were eventually released without charges, save for the driver receiving a citation for driving with a suspended license.

<snip>

In the situation with the $26,000, police seized the money because the driver could not give an adequate reason for having that much money. First, the driver said it was to buy a car, according to the police report. Then, he said it came from working at various jobs. The passenger said he had no clue about the money.

<snip>

What a load of horsehit.

2. That's disturbing that the police...
...can keep money like that.

And I don't see how the citizens answer was a bad one. He said the money was from working
multiple jobs. He also said it was going to be used to buy a car. That sounds plausible.
Highly unlikely, but possible.

If this story happened in Palm Springs or Beverly Hills--we would be more outraged. Police
officers can't just confiscate money...because they feel like it...or can they?

What if they had stopped some kid in Beverly Hills that had that much cash?

4. Even more plausible in today's day and age where people don't trust banks
How many folks don't trust banks anymore and keep their earned money squirreled away as cash?

7. Well they can and they do all the time.
It is because of the RICO laws that makes them able to charge the money with a crime...and sense money is not a person and has no rights to be considered Innocent until proven guilty they can keep and spend the money on themselves.
This not only apply to money but all property including your house your car and any other possessions you have.

3. It's along the same lines as having to produce ID on demand
regardless whether or not it's necessary.

6. The cops weren't happy with the answers he gave...
Officer: what are you doing with this money in your car?
Suspect: I'm going to go buy a new car.
Officer: How did you get this money?
Suspect: Working at various jobs.
Officer: This doesn't add up. I'm keeping the money.

WTF???

5. Not the first time I've heard a story like this.
The assume you are a drug dealer or something, and the local cop shop gets to keep the cash.

Released without charges, but you lose the cash anyway. :wtf:

Cops are sick fucks! (OK, 99.999% of them are sick fucks) :thumbsdown:
