You're a lowdown, yellow-bellied, lily-livered intellectual coward.
http://the-reaction.blogspot.com/2009/03/no-thanks.html

Andrew Klavan of the Los Angeles Times has a challenge for us liberals out there who have been dissing Rush Limbaugh:

If you are reading this newspaper, the likelihood is that you agree with the Obama administration's recent attacks on conservative radio talker Rush Limbaugh. That's the likelihood; here's the certainty: You've never listened to Rush Limbaugh.

Oh no, you haven't. Whenever I interrupt a liberal's anti-Limbaugh rant to point out that the ranter has never actually listened to the man, he always says the same thing: "I've heard him!"

On further questioning, it always turns out that by "heard him," he means he's heard the selected excerpts spoon-fed him by the distortion-mongers of the mainstream media. These excerpts are specifically designed to accomplish one thing: to make sure you never actually listen to Limbaugh's show, never actually give him a fair chance to speak his piece to you directly.

<...>

Let me guess at your answer. You don't need to listen to him. You've heard enough to know he's a) racist, b) hateful, c) stupid, d) merely an outrageous entertainer not to be taken seriously or e) all of the above.

Now let me tell you the real answer: You're a lowdown, yellow-bellied, lily-livered intellectual coward. You're terrified of finding out he makes more sense than you do.

<...>

Therefore, I am throwing down my gauntlet at your quivering liberal feet. I hereby issue my challenge -- the Limbaugh Challenge: Listen to the show. Not for five minutes but for several hours: an hour a day for several days. Consider what he has to say -- the real policy material under the jokes and teasing bluster. Do what your intellectual keepers do not want you to do and keep an open mind. Ask yourself: What's he getting at? Why does he say the things he says? Why do so many people of goodwill -- like that nice Mr. Klavan -- agree with him?

The mainstream media (a.k.a. the Matrix) don't want you to listen to Limbaugh because they're afraid he'll wake you up and set you free of their worldview. You don't want to listen to him because you're afraid of the same thing.

Don't believe me? Well, then, gird your loins. Gather your courage. Accept the Limbaugh Challenge. See what happens.

I dare you.

He's an asshole who never debates anything and lies like a motherfucker unchallenged. I figured that out when I was 18. I listened to him for 2 years before figuring that out.

He makes idiots feel as though they are better informed than intellectuals and spoon feeds their opinions to them all the while making them feel that they came to those conclusions themselves.

I remember him bitching about Sir Mix Alot's "Baby Got Back" and that Kurt Cobain was a piece of human garbage or some such and deserved to kill himself.

Fuck him.

16. Klavin - I've done that and one even better.
I live in Tennessee. We have nothing but right-wing media in this state, which is why we continue to slip right - literally - off the abyss and away from the rest of the country.

I've listened to Rush, to Hannity and to the local bloviating idiots until I was coming home with high blood pressure. Because our "news" radio stations were only talk - I had no choice if I wanted to catch up on local and state news on my daily commute.

Luckily, I have a husband who loves and respects me and purchased for me, just last week, a satellite radio. Now, I get my local news online during lunch and listen to left-wing talk shows for national news in my car, bypassing all the local advertisers who will no longer see my cash because I don't care to spend it with those whom support ideas that are bankrupt.

18. For *years*, Limbaugh was the only show I could get on my 2-hour drive from work.
I listened to him roughly 8-9 hours a week back then as occasionally, mind-numbing silence was more appealing.

Limbaugh is one of those people who can be summed up by a few soundbites. He is everything he seems in those little snippets. He's racist, hateful, and spends about 99% of his time demonizing "Liberals" in the most schizophrenic ways imaginable.

He literally blames *all* things bad on liberals, from talking with food in your mouth to gum on the sidewalk to macroeconomic crises. If there's a crime in the news, you can bet your ass he'll blame it on liberals, even when it's overtly right-wing, like the Oklahoma City bombing or that nut in the Unitarian church a few months back.

You don't need to actually listen to Limbaugh for any length of time to know what he's about. He's earned his reputation.

That was something Rush said that made me 1st think about his integrity. Then he said how could Global warming even be a problem. Hasn't everyone had an ice cube melt in their drink? Did their drink flood over? That was when he lost me completely and that was in the late eighties. I then realized he was just plain full of crap and only a rebel rouser.

21. Well let's hit the most important error first
You can't be an intellectual and a coward at the same time. To be an intellectual, you have to be willing to try and understand things you don't already know. That takes courage thereby falsifying the label as coward.
I will admit that I don't listen to Limpballs or any of the other bloviators out there. You want to know why? It's pretty simple, they just spew opinion without any basis or reference to facts to support their opinion. I've had to listen to a lot of talk radio over the last few decades because I spent much of that time on the road. I could deal with the bloviators for about five minutes at a time before trying to find some good music (try and find that on commercial radio!)

I feel like this asshat isn't even worth responding to because the whole thing is nothing more than instigation and incitement. I'm old enough that I have taken verbal abuse so long that my skin is tougher than a rhino.

I'm glad that the last few years have given voice to people like Hartmann,Rhodes,Skinner, and so many others that don't just spew their POV but have intelligent discussions and provide factual information to support their views.

I challenge Mr. Klavan to try and listen to and call in to argue his viewpoints on any of those shows. Even if he is an intelligent individual, I expect his arguments will be lacking in logic and supported by nothing more thanb "talking points".

I don't have to stick my nose into a big pile of shit, either. I'm pretty sure it's going to smell like shit. Some people like to hit their thumb with a hammer over and over again, because it feels so good when they stop. Other people know it's painful, and don't have start in the first place.

But if Mr. Limbaugh is such a hero to you, Mr. Klavan, why don't you bring forth some of the more lustrous pearls from his intellectual fortress and dazzle us all?

All to frequently, the comments posted here are simply name-calling.

Just saying Limbaugh is a big fat idiot, leaves Limbaugh

As annunciated by famed cinematic character Jules Winnfield, played by the great actor Samuel L. Jackson in the movie "Pulp Fiction"...

I apply the same principle evoked above with regards to listening to racist scum.

42. This article is obviously just more of the strutting that Republicans seem addicted to.

They all seem to feel some sort of tragi-comical need to be John Wayne. And here this asshat is trying to reinforce the Republican label of liberals as being both cowardly and intellectual.

Well asshat... I've listened to Rush, I listened to him while staying with a gun toting girl from Oklahoma who was something of a dittohead. Rush uses false assumptions as a foundation for spurious logical constructions... which seem like solid logic, as long as he manages to verbally dazzle the listener with the tricks of the trade while he slips the false assumptions underlying the logic to be employed past the listener.
I have listened, and I've spotted the trick floor in the magic transporter box of his rhetoric, and then I've explained it to a woman with an unlicensed .38 in her purse, over shots of whiskey.
That woman is no longer a dittohead. She may still lean right... but once the trick floor in the Rush rhetoric was pointed out, Rush was just a sweaty pill popper with a $2 magic wand that he picked up at a novelty store.

Luckily for Rush, as PT Barnum so eloquently put it, "There's a sucker born every minute."
